Do I pay extra for a custom color on my cushion?

Also asked as:Can I pay extra for a custom color?Do you have dark gray or mint green?

A color is not an upgrade. It is a choice, and the workshop charges nothing for choosing well.

The quick answer

No, a custom color does not cost extra: any color on the workshop's fabric charts can be made on any cushion at no added cost, ordered by its code. The price follows the cushion's size and fabric type, not its color. If your shade is not on the charts, send a reference image and the closest color the workshop carries is suggested.

Key facts

  • Every color on the fabric charts is available on any cushion.
  • Colors are ordered by their number or code from the chart.
  • Choosing any chart code costs nothing extra.
  • The price follows the cushion's size and fabric type, not its color.
  • Colors outside the charts are matched from a reference image to the closest shade the workshop carries.
  • Velvet 118 Cranberry Red is a deep dark wine.
  • The corduroy range runs to about 9 to 10 colors, with no maroon or dark pink, so deep wine shades cross over to velvet.
  • Swatches are roughly palm-sized, about 4 to 6 in (10 to 15 cm) square, and one sample pack has held up to 5 colors.

The dark wine that corduroy couldn't give

Color is the first comfort, my friends, and nobody should pay a toll for it. Every shade on the fabric charts, from the palest linen to the deepest velvet, can go on any cushion the workshop makes. You write the code; the cushion comes back in it.

When the shade in your head is not on any chart, send a picture of it. One buyer asked for a dark wine or dark pink in corduroy. The corduroy range had no dark pink, so the suggestion crossed over to velvet: 118 Cranberry Red, a deep dark wine.

That crossing is the one place a price can move, because fabric type is part of the quote. Color inside a fabric never is. The vocabulary sits under fabric code, and before you commit, order swatches. The shapes pictured here live under modular floor sofas.

Asking for a color that isn't on the chart

  • Send a reference image of the shade you want, taken in daylight. Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does.
  • Name the fabric you hoped for, so the suggestion crosses to another fabric only if it must.
  • Ask for numbers side by side when two shades look alike on a screen, like mustard 12 and golden yellow 18.
  • Narrow it to two or three codes and ask for close-ups of those rolls.
  • Confirm the final code before production; you can still switch until then.

Within one cushion fabric, color is free: a deep wine velvet costs the same as a dove gray velvet of the same size.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Could I pay extra for a custom color, like a dark wine or pink corduroy?

    The workshop's answer

There is nothing extra to pay for any fabric the workshop carries; you order by its code. The corduroy range had no dark pink, so for a dark wine the suggestion was velvet 118 Cranberry Red.

  2. A common question

Can I get this cushion in dark gray, mint green or a darker navy?

    The workshop's answer

Every color on the fabric chart is available for any cushion. Pick the color, or its number, from the chart and the cushion is made in it.

  3. A common question

Is this velvet mustard or yellow? The swatches look alike to me.

    The workshop's answer

On the floor-cushion velvet chart, 12 is mustard, 18 is golden yellow and 14 is amber or burnt orange; tobacco is not orange. Ask for the numbers side by side, since screens shift these shades.

  4. A common question

Is this fabric a true black, or more of a charcoal?

    The workshop's answer

Often not true black: P72 is dark gray, the N07 stripe is a near-black navy, corduroy 03 is dark brown, T36 is charcoal with no blue and G-62 is a near-black anthracite. Ask for a photo if you need true black.

Questions buyers ask next

Does switching from soft fabric to velvet change the price?

It can. A quote is set by the cushion's size and its fabric type, so moving between fabric families may change it. Moving between colors inside one fabric family does not, whichever code you choose.

Can I still change the color after I order?

Yes, before production starts. Narrow your list to two or three codes, ask for close-ups of those rolls if you need them, and confirm the final code by message before the cushion is cut.

Which colors sit well in a sage or olive room?

Warm neutrals: cream, oatmeal or light beige in soft fabric 910, 915 or 916. Terracotta or rust flatters sage, tobacco pairs with olive or khaki, and P-69 gray with P-65 green piping works. Avoid pure white and cool grays.
