The Cutting Table · a common question
Can you mock up my cushion in the fabric I picked before I order?
Also asked as:Do you do a rendering before purchase?Send me a mockup to approve
Your own cushion, in your own color, before a single cut. It exists, and it has one honest limit: the screen you see it on.
The quick answer
Yes, the workshop can send a digital mockup of your custom cushion in the fabric you picked, once your colors are chosen. Past mockups showed an outdoor stripe with blue piping and corduroy with bolsters. You also get close-ups of your codes side by side and photos of finished cushions. Screens shift color, so for large or color-critical projects, order physical swatches too.
SaveKey facts
- A digital mockup or rendering of your cushion is offered once your colors are chosen.
- Past mockups showed an outdoor stripe with blue piping, corduroy with bolsters, and sofa covers in two candidate colors.
- Close-ups of your fabric codes side by side are the usual preview.
- Real photos of cushions already made in your fabrics are shared, along with close-ups such as velvet 111.
- Physical samples are recommended for large or color-critical projects.
- One sample order covers up to 5 fabric codes.
- Physical swatches are palm-sized, about 4 x 4 to 6 x 6 in, which is enough to judge color in your own daylight.
- The outdoor range alone runs to about 150-200 colors, and the teddy sofa corduroy to about 9-10 colors.

Have Élodie’s workshop cut this for you
Color is easier to settle in a conversation than on a screen. Tell the workshop about the room and the light it gets, and the fabric choice follows. — Élodie
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
What the mockup shows, and when it arrives
The listing photo will not change color when you pick a code. Buyers notice it often, a little alarmed, and they are right: that photo is one cushion, in one fabric, in one room's light.
So once your colors are chosen, the workshop makes a digital mockup of your cushion in that fabric. I have seen an outdoor stripe drawn with blue piping, corduroy shown with its bolsters, and sofa covers drawn twice, once in each candidate color, so the choice could sit side by side. A rendering is very good at shape, piping and layout.
Four cushion previews, and what each one can promise
| Preview | What it shows well | What it can't promise |
|---|---|---|
| Digital mockup of your cushion | Shape, piping, bolsters, your fabric in place | Exact color, because screens vary |
| Close-ups of your codes side by side | How two or three shades relate, and the pile or weave (a velvet 111 close-up, for one) | How they look in your room |
| Photos of finished cushions in that fabric | How the cloth sits on a real cushion | Your own daylight |
| Physical swatch | True color and texture in your own light | The finished shape |
Why I still put a swatch in your hand
Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does. A mockup tells you the cushion is right. Only cloth tells you the color is right. For a long bench cushion, a set of outdoor cushions or any color you would lose sleep over, order physical samples as well.
One sample fee covers the whole sample order, not each swatch, and you can plan on up to 5 codes at a time. The swatch Pattern walks through ordering them, and screen versus daylight explains the drift. Which two colors are you torn between, my friends?
Pick the fabric code first, then ask for the cushion mockup: the rendering is made once colors are chosen, not before.

Buyer questions
- A common question
Could I see a rendering of my cushion before I pay?
The workshop's answerYes, once your colors are chosen. Until then the workshop helps you picture it with close-ups of your codes side by side and photos of cushions already made. For large or color-critical projects it recommends physical samples as well.
- A common question
Can I get samples, or see the colors in real life, before I order?
The workshop's answerYes. Order physical swatches through the fabric samples listing and write the codes you want in the note. The workshop also sends real photos of cushions made in those fabrics, close-ups such as velvet 111, and mockups of your cushion in the chosen fabric.
- A common question
Is the sample fee charged per swatch?
The workshop's answerNo, it is one fee per sample order. Buy one fabric sample and list every color number you want in the note; they ship together in one package, and mixing linen, velvet and soft fabrics is fine.
- A common question
Can a few swatches come along with my cushion order?
The workshop's answerYes. Send the codes before dispatch and a few swatches can travel inside your cushion parcel. Codes on a sample order can also be changed or added until it ships.
Questions buyers ask next
Is a mockup the same as a physical sample?
No. A mockup is a digital picture of your cushion in the chosen fabric, good for judging shape, piping and layout. A physical swatch shows true color and texture in your own light, which is why both are suggested when color really matters.
How many fabric codes fit in one sample order?
Plan on up to 5 fabric codes per sample order. For a longer shortlist, place another sample order or trim the list. On some cushion listings, one sample purchase brings a full color chart across linen, velvet and soft fabric.
Can the mockup compare two colors I'm deciding between?
Yes. Mockups have shown sofa covers in two candidate colors, one beside the other. Narrow your list to the pair you are truly choosing between, then ask; seeing both on the same shape makes the decision much easier.
