The Cutting Table · a common question

Can I choose the delivery day, or a safe place to leave my order?

Also asked as:Can I select a specific day and time?Where will they leave it if I'm not home?

A big box on an empty porch in a thunderstorm is nobody's plan. Say where it should wait, and the courier hears about it before the van leaves.

The quick answer

Yes, you can ask for a delivery day, time and safe place: tell the workshop before dispatch, for example the backyard or a neighbor, and it passes the note to the courier. Once the parcel ships, the FedEx tracking link lets you manage the delivery time yourself. Away when it comes? Call the carrier with your tracking number to hold or rebook it.

Four moves to steer the parcel home

  1. Before dispatch: write the plan

Tell the workshop your preferred day, time and a safe place, such as the backyard, or a neighbor who'll take it in. Add a phone number: the courier may call first.

  2. At dispatch: watch for tracking

The tracking number arrives before the parcel leaves, so you can follow it from the first scan.

  3. In transit: use the carrier's link

FedEx sends a link where you can manage the delivery time. Some buyers changed the day themselves this way, without writing to anyone.

  4. Away from home: call the carrier

Phone the carrier with your tracking number and ask them to hold the parcel, change the day or leave it with a neighbor.

Why the courier holds the tiller

The workshop passes your instructions along, but once the box is aboard a FedEx air express van (UPS has carried orders too), the carrier's link and phone line are the quickest levers you have. Rain doesn't negotiate, and neither does a delivery route; the sooner you speak up, the easier the change.

For a big order like a modular floor sofa, a named safe place matters even more. The first 72 hours pattern covers what to do once the boxes are inside. Which day is someone actually home at your place, friend?

After a cushion order ships, the FedEx tracking link lets you move the delivery time yourself; some buyers rebooked the day without writing to the workshop.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Will the courier bring it to my door, and can I pick a delivery day or a safe place?

    The workshop's answer

The courier brings it to your door or apartment and may phone you first. You can give the workshop a preferred day, time and safe place, such as the backyard, or have it left with a neighbor. Tracking is sent before dispatch.

  2. A common question

Which courier do you use, and can I choose my delivery day?

    The workshop's answer

Orders ship by FedEx air express, and UPS has also been used. After dispatch FedEx sends a link where you can manage the delivery time, and the workshop asks for a phone number to give the courier.

  3. A common question

The courier keeps trying to deliver while I'm away. Can you reschedule it?

    The workshop's answer

Call the carrier with your tracking number (the workshop gives you both) and ask them to hold the parcel, change the day or leave it with a neighbor.

  4. A common question

I'll be away when it's due. Can delivery wait until I'm back?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Share your travel dates and the workshop holds the order, reconfirms with you, and ships it to arrive after you return.

Questions buyers ask next

Is the day I ask for a guaranteed delivery day?

No. The workshop passes on your preference, but exact days can't be guaranteed. The carrier's tracking link lets you adjust the day yourself if it lands on the wrong one.

Tracking shows nothing yet. Has the parcel left?

Often the label is created before the carrier collects the parcel, so tracking stays blank until the first pickup scan. Once it moves, the carrier sets the pace. One quote gave 2 to 4 days of shipping; ask the workshop for your own estimate. If it still looks stuck, the workshop checks with the courier.

Why does the courier need my phone number?

Because the courier may call before delivering. The workshop asks for a number to pass on with the parcel, so the driver can reach you about the day or the drop-off spot.
