The Cutting Table · compared on the table
Will the courier bring my floor sofa to the door, even up the stairs?
Also asked as:Narrow corridor leading to the living roomUp one flight of stairs, will they deliver?
A rigid couch and a fifth-floor walk-up make a bad forecast. A floor sofa in roll packs makes for a different day entirely.
SaveThe quick answer
In past deliveries, yes: FedEx and UPS brought the floor sofa to the buyer's door, walk-up apartments included, and the sofa arrives as vacuum-packed roll packs that one or two people can carry up stairs and through narrow hallways. There is no rigid frame to turn around corners. Add a phone number to the order so FedEx or UPS can reach you.

Key facts
- Past deliveries came to the buyer's door, including walk-up apartments.
- The sofa is vacuum-compressed into roll packs, not shipped as a rigid frame.
- It arrives as separate cushion packages that one or two people can carry.
- A phone number on the order lets the courier reach you.
- If FedEx misses you, rebook or collect through the local FedEx office, or the parcel may be returned.
- Delivery can be scheduled by calling UPS, and it can be made without a signature.
- Each roll pack is about 12 x 12 x 47 in and 18 to 33 lb (8 to 15 kg); a standard teddy sofa totals about 55 to 77 lb (25 to 35 kg), and the rolls fit in a regular car.

Why a floor sofa climbs stairs better than a couch
A framed couch is one stiff object. A modular floor sofa is cushions and a small set of metal bars, so the air is pressed out of the cushions and each goes into its own roll pack. The packages travel separately, and one or two people can carry each one.
A buyer with a narrow corridor into the living room asked whether it would fit. It passes easily, because nothing in the box is rigid. Walk-ups have had the same delivery to the door. Once it's inside, the first 72 hours Pattern covers the unpacking.
The phone number, and the day nobody's home
Add a phone number to the order; FedEx and UPS need it to reach you. If FedEx misses you, call the local office with the tracking number to rebook or collect, or the parcel may head back to the workshop. Rain doesn't negotiate, and neither does a returned parcel.
With UPS you can call ahead to schedule, and delivery can be made without a signature. How many flights stand between your door and the street, friend?
Floor sofa deliveries have come to the door, walk-ups included: the cushions arrive as separate roll packs that one or two people can carry.

Buyer questions
- A common question
I have a narrow corridor into my living room. Will the sofa fit through, and will it be brought to my door?
The workshop's answerThe courier delivers to your door. The sofa comes as compressed roll packs rather than a rigid frame, so it passes through narrow corridors easily.
- A common question
I live up a flight of stairs. Will the courier bring the sofa to my door?
The workshop's answerYes. FedEx delivers to your door, and because the sofa is vacuum-packed, it doesn't take up much space.
- A common question
How heavy is the couch? Can we get it upstairs ourselves?
The workshop's answerThe courier brings it to your door, and it arrives as separate vacuum-packed cushions that one or two people can carry.
- A common question
Can I schedule the delivery to my walk-up apartment?
The workshop's answerYes. UPS brings it to your door, even in a walk-up. Call UPS to schedule; delivery can be made without a signature. Add a phone number to the order, and if FedEx misses you, call them with the tracking number.
- A common question
My sofa cushions came but the metal bars didn't. Where are they?
The workshop's answerThey ship in a separate small box that can arrive on a different day or get overlooked. If they're really missing, send a photo of what arrived and ask the workshop to confirm in writing what it will send and when.
Questions buyers ask next
Do I need to take the floor sofa apart to get it upstairs?
No, there is nothing to take apart. The cushions arrive already made, each in its own compressed roll pack, and the metal bars come in a small box. You carry the packs in and assemble only the bars.
Why does the order ask for a phone number?
FedEx and UPS need a number to reach you on delivery day, so the workshop asks for one with the order. If a delivery is missed, you'll also want the tracking number to rebook.
What happens if nobody is home for the delivery?
Contact the local FedEx office to rebook or collect the parcel; otherwise it may be returned to the workshop. With UPS, you can call to reschedule, and delivery can be made without a signature.
