The Cutting Table · a checklist answer

Can I change my delivery address after I've ordered?

Also asked as:Checkout autofilled the wrong addressApple Pay auto-applied my old address

An address is like a tide table: only useful if it's the right one for today. Here's how to fix it while the parcel is still at the dock.

The quick answer

Yes, as long as the parcel hasn't shipped: message the workshop the correct address right away and the order is updated before it goes to the carrier. Changing the address in your account profile doesn't change an order already placed. After dispatch, the workshop asks the carrier, since with FedEx only the shipper can request it, and a change isn't guaranteed.

Key facts

  • The delivery address can be changed by message before dispatch.
  • Updating the address in your account profile does not change an order already placed.
  • Your phone number is passed to the courier for delivery.
  • The workshop requests address changes with FedEx; only the shipper can change a FedEx address.
  • After dispatch, both the buyer and the workshop contact UPS to redirect the parcel.
  • A change after dispatch isn't guaranteed.
  • The production window, before dispatch, is the time for an address change; ask the workshop how long yours has left.
  • Once dispatched, a parcel moves fast: one US order sent by expedited FedEx was due in 3 to 5 days, which leaves little time to redirect it.

Have Callum’s workshop cut this for you

Tell them where it lives. Porch, deck or boat: the weather picks the fabric and the foam before anyone else does. — Callum

Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.

Fabric
The cover cloth: weave, color and care code.
Foam
The core: its density and thickness set the feel.
Piping
The corded seam edge: matching, contrast or none.
Only for this request: no marketing calls or texts. Outside the US, add the country code.
In inches: length × depth × thickness, plus any angles or cut corners.

We use these details only to answer this request and make your cushion: your name and contact details, the cushion details and photos you send, the page you came from and the ad or link that brought you, if any. Wrong address on the order? Four steps before dispatch

  • Message the workshop the full, correct address today.
  • Add a phone number; the courier needs one, and it's passed along for delivery.
  • Don't count on editing your account profile; it won't change an order already placed.
  • Wait for the reply confirming the order now carries the new address.

How the old address sneaks aboard

Autofill is quick and has a long memory. A saved payment wallet or an old profile fills the checkout form in a blink, and last year's address rides along. Buyers have also confirmed the old address themselves, out of habit. Rain doesn't negotiate, and neither does a printed label, so the fix has to happen before dispatch.

If you're moving, there's a calmer route than racing the carrier: add 'deliver on or after [date]' to the order note, and the order is held so it arrives close to your move-in date. Shipping straight to the new address is the safest plan. The personalization note Pattern covers what else belongs in that note. Moving before your cushions arrive, friend?

If the parcel has already left

  1. Message the workshop anyway; it contacts the carrier on your behalf.
  2. With FedEx, only the shipper can request an address change, so the workshop makes that call.
  3. With UPS, contact the carrier yourself as well and ask for a redirect.
  4. Expect no promise: after dispatch, the outcome is up to the carrier.
A real project

The buyer who phoned FedEx first

A buyer in the US found that checkout had autofilled the wrong address and did the sensible-sounding thing: called FedEx. FedEx said only the shipper could change it. So the buyer messaged the workshop, and the workshop put the request in with FedEx. Start with the shipper; that's who the carrier listens to. If the cushion arrives vacuum-packed, the unpacking Pattern covers the first 72 hours.

A wrong delivery address is easy to fix before dispatch and hard after: with FedEx, only the shipper can request the change.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Do you need my phone number, and can I still change the address?

    The workshop's answer

The courier needs a phone number, so the workshop notes it for delivery when you send it. An address confirmed by mistake can be updated in messages before the parcel ships.

  2. A common question

The wrong shipping address was autofilled at checkout. Can you change it?

    The workshop's answer

Message right away and the workshop asks FedEx to update the address. FedEx told one buyer that only the shipper can change it, so the workshop has to make the request.

  3. A common question

My order went through with my old address. Can you update it?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Message before dispatch. If the parcel has already shipped, the workshop contacts the carrier, and you should also contact UPS yourself to redirect it.

  4. A common question

Can you delay shipping so the order arrives after I move in?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Order now, add 'deliver on or after [date]' to the order note, and the order is held so it arrives as close to your move-in date as possible. Shipping straight to the new address is the safest plan.

Questions buyers ask next

Is it too late once I have a tracking number?

Not always, but it's harder. The workshop contacts the carrier, and with UPS you should call too and ask for a redirect. With FedEx only the shipper can request the change. Nothing is guaranteed after dispatch, so message as early as you can.

Why doesn't updating my profile fix the order?

An order keeps the address it was placed with, and a profile edit doesn't reach back into it. The workshop has to change the address on the order itself, so send the corrected address in a message.

Should I send a phone number with a new address?

Yes. The courier needs a phone number for delivery, and the workshop passes it along with the address. Send both in the same message so the label goes out right the first time.
