Cream velvet floor sofa with camel end panels in a white room with a radiator, framed print, oak side table and jute rugSave
  1. Single framed print

One picture above the sofa is enough in a room this calm.

  2. Oak table and eucalyptus

The oak matches the camel ends almost exactly.

  3. Camel-capped bolster

Placed near the window end, the bolster leaves a long lounging seat.

  4. Camel base end

Choosing the end color from nearby wood makes the sofa look built in.

  5. Clear radiator

The low sofa sits well below the sill, so heat and light are not blocked.

A cream and camel modular floor sofa, patterned only by its materials

No stripe, no print. The pattern in this bright room lives in the velvet pile, the jute and the oak grain.

The quick answer

A modular floor sofa can look layered without any printed pattern: pair two plain velvets, cream for the seats and camel for the ends, and let a jute rug, oak grain and a glazed vase supply the texture. Take the end color from the nearest wood. The standard sofa is about 39 x 79 in (100 x 200 cm); past custom widths cost the same.

Two plains and a room full of texture

The camel ends are the whole idea.

The modular floor sofa runs along a white wall in two plain velvets. Cream on the seats and backrest. Camel on the end panels and on the cap of the bolster. There is no piping. The box edges close in a clean seam, so each color reads as one quiet block.

It sits low, well under the windowsill, so the radiator and the light stay clear. Height is a feeling, and here it feels like more room.

The pattern is not printed. It lives in the materials. The jute rug is a coarse weave. The oak side table shows its grain. The glazed vase is glossy against matte pile. Even the velvet moves, its pile lighter or darker as you pass.

The props are few. One framed print, centered. Eucalyptus and two books on the table. A candle and more books on the sill. Each repeats a tone already in the sofa: cream, camel or pale oak.

Five places the eye rests

Five pins, from the single print down to the clear radiator.

The numbers match the pins on the plate.

If you want a stripe

Stripes, plains and texture can share one floor sofa. The order matters.

  • Keep the big pieces, seats and backrests, plain.
  • Put a stripe on the smallest piece, a lumbar pillow or the bolster cap.
  • Take the stripe's colors from what is already there, cream and camel.
  • Let texture carry the rest: jute, wood, a knit throw.

Corners and other shapes are drawn in modular floor sofa layouts.

What does the wood nearest your sofa look like?

Plain on the big shapes. Pattern on the small ones. Texture everywhere else.

A real project

A year in the storage unit

A family in the US bought a floor sofa and a matching chair. They kept both parcels sealed in storage for more than a year.

When they opened them, the foam was crumbly and would not expand.

The workshop's rule: vacuum-packed foam leaves its bag within two to three weeks, never more than a month. Still, as goodwill, new fillings were offered for the sofa and the chair at a reduced price.

Open the parcel when it arrives. Store the sofa, not the packet.

The lesson: Unpack vacuum-compressed foam within 2 to 3 weeks; long storage in compression can damage it for good.

Width, corners and bars

  1. A common question

My wall is a little short for the standard floor sofa. Can you make it narrower?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Order the standard size and write your width in the note; requests have run from 60 to 74 in (152 to 188 cm) against the standard 78 1/2 in (199 cm). In past orders a custom width cost the same as the standard sofa, and one custom-width order took about a week longer to make.

  2. A common question

Could I have the floor sofa with no piping, or join two sofas in different colors as a corner?

    The workshop's answer

Both are possible. Write 'no piping' in the order note and confirm it by message afterward, and the pillow ends are sewn plain. Two sofas can be joined into a corner in any color mix. Fabrics other than corduroy have carried a small extra charge; the quote shows the difference.

  3. A common question

Some of the sofa's metal bars arrived with flaking chrome, and two won't lock. Can I get new ones?

    The workshop's answer

Send photos first: one of the flaking chrome and one of each bar that won't lock. In past cases it sent a full set or only the faulty pieces, one corner or one side, with tracking. Light marks straight from production often wipe off with a cloth. Bars that were rusty, misshaped or stayed loose have been replaced before.

A two-color floor sofa looks built in when the end panels take their color from the nearest wood, like camel velvet beside an oak side table.

Questions buyers ask next

Why does a low floor sofa suit a room with a radiator under the window?

A floor sofa seat sits about 13 1/2 to 14 1/2 in (34 to 37 cm) high, well below a typical windowsill, so warm air and daylight pass over it and the room keeps its light.

How soon does a vacuum-packed floor sofa regain its shape?

Most floor sofa foam recovers in 24 to 48 hours after opening, and cover creases settle over the next days. Open the parcels promptly; foam should not stay compressed beyond 2 to 3 weeks.

Can a stripe and plain velvet be mixed on one floor sofa?

Yes, fabric families can be mixed in one order. Keep the seats and backrests plain, put the stripe on a small piece such as a bolster or lumbar pillow, and take its colors from the plains.
