The Cutting Table · a checklist answer

Is a non-slip bottom included, or does it cost extra?

Also asked as:Do they have a non-slip base?I'm worried it will slide all over the place.

Nobody asks about the underside until the cushion has slid off the bench twice. Right, then: here is what the grippy bottom costs and how to ask for it.

The quick answer

A non-slip bottom is not included as standard; it is an optional add-on that costs extra, and the price scales with the cushion's size. It can go on any shape, from bench and entryway cushions to window seats, daybeds and trapezoids. Order normally, write 'non-slip base' plus your exact size in personalization, and the difference goes into your quote or arrives as a payment link.

Key facts

  • Non-slip bottoms are optional, not standard.
  • The add-on works on any shape: bench, entryway, window seat, daybed and trapezoid cushions.
  • Anti-slip bases have also gone on outdoor seat cushions and been offered on banquettes.
  • The add-on price depends on cushion size, so a larger cushion costs more.
  • Request it in personalization, together with your exact size.
  • The difference is included in a custom quote or paid through an extra-payment link.
  • Floor sofa base covers come with a white non-slip backing, replaced if it crumbles or flakes.

Before you check out: the non-slip checklist

  • Decide which cushions actually wander; the base is chosen per cushion.
  • Write 'non-slip base' and the exact finished size on one line of the personalization box.
  • Order as normal. There's no separate mat; the grippy panel is part of the cover.
  • Look for the difference in your quote or as an extra-payment link.
  • Want ties as well? Ask in the same note; they're only added on request.

Why the grippy bottom isn't standard

The grippy bottom is a whole panel, not a sticker. The cover's underside is sewn from non-slip fabric that holds by friction, so a longer cushion needs more of it. That's why the add-on is priced by size, and why a chair pad and a 91.5 in (232 cm) daybed cushion don't pay the same.

It isn't standard because not every seat needs it. A cushion boxed in between two arms rarely goes anywhere; one on a painted lid or a smooth daybed top is another story.

Three ways a cushion ends up sliding anyway

  • Assuming it comes standard. Without a note, the cushion ships without one.
  • Writing 'non-slip' with no size. The price depends on it.
  • Machine-washing a floor sofa's grippy backing with the cover. Wipe it clean instead; rubber bits come away in the wash.

A non-slip cushion bottom is never standard: the grippy panel is only sewn on when the order note asks for it, and a longer cushion needs a bigger panel.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Do you offer a non-slip base so my cushion stays put on a window seat?

    The workshop's answer

Yes, as an add-on per cushion. The underside is then made with anti-slip material, so the cushion holds its place on a window seat or bench.

  2. A common question

My bench cushion keeps sliding around. Can the new one have a non-slip bottom?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. The price of the non-slip base depends on the cushion's size. Order normally, write 'non-slip base' and your exact size in personalization, and the workshop sends a link for the difference.

  3. A common question

My daybed top is smooth. Will the cushion come with a non-slip bottom?

    The workshop's answer

Not as standard, but one can be added for an extra cost; a 91.5 x 31 in (232 x 79 cm) daybed cushion was quoted with it.

  4. A common question

Could my trapezoid cushion have piping and a non-slip bottom together?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. One trapezoid cushion was ordered at no more than 2 1/2 in (6.5 cm) thick, with piping and a non-slip bottom. Floor sofa base covers carry a white non-slip backing, replaced if it ever flakes.

Questions buyers ask next

Can I put the grippy base on only some cushions in a set?

Yes. The add-on is chosen cushion by cushion, so one set can mix pieces with and without it. Name which cushions get the base, each with its exact size, in the personalization note.

Will a non-slip bottom leave residue on a painted bench?

No. The grippy panel is sewn into the cover as its underside and holds by friction, not glue, so there is no adhesive to transfer. It is part of the cover, not a separate mat.

Why does a longer cushion cost more for the grippy bottom?

Because the non-slip fabric covers the whole underside, the add-on scales with size. A long daybed or entry bench cushion needs a bigger panel than a chair pad.
