The Cutting Table · compared on the table
Why did the cushion price suddenly go up, or even double?
Also asked as:What happened to the price? It just doubledHow long is the 40% discount on?
Nobody likes a number that jumps overnight. Most of the time it is a sale that closed its doors, and it pays to knock and ask what changed.
SaveThe quick answer
If the price went up overnight, a limited-time sale has most likely just ended: the regular price comes back, and after a deep sale it can look almost twice the sale price. Ask the shop what changed before assuming a rise. In past cases it refreshed an expired sale for a ready buyer, or let one pay the sale price and ship later; a listing error was corrected, not honored.

What happened to the price, case by case
| What you saw | What it usually was | What the shop did |
|---|---|---|
| Price nearly doubled overnight | A limited-time sale ended | Refreshed the sale on request |
| Sale ending while you decide | A limited-period sale, one with four days left | Offered buy now at the sale price, ship later |
| Price seems higher than last visit | No change; a sale was still running | Confirmed prices were unchanged |
| An unusually low price vanished | A listing error | Corrected it and offered a ready buyer a price in between |

The best cushions I have known began with somebody asking one more question. Ask yours here. — Harlan

Why a sale makes the regular price look like a leap
Here's the arithmetic, my friend. A sale takes a slice off the regular price. When it closes, the regular price comes back, and the deeper the sale was, the bigger the jump looks; after a deep one it reads as doubled. Nothing about the foam or the seams changed. Only the calendar did.
Buy the cushion once, cry once. If you've settled on a modular floor sofa or a set of cushions, say so and ask what changed. In past cases an expired sale was refreshed for a buyer ready to order, and buyers whose rooms weren't ready paid the sale price and had the order shipped later.
The price that was a mistake
A buyer wrote to the workshop unhappy that a price had climbed in a week and asked the workshop to honor the old one. The old price had been a listing error, a number that should never have gone up, so it couldn't be honored. What the workshop did do was meet the buyer partway: once the color and backrest choice were settled, it sent a payment link at a price between the old and the new. Honest about the mistake, fair about the fix.
Before you give up on a sale price
- Ask whether a sale just ended; in past cases an expired sale was refreshed for a buyer ready to order.
- Ordering ahead of a move? Ask about paying now and shipping later; past buyers have done it.
- Ordering several pieces? Ask for one quote for the whole set instead of pricing each listing on its own.
- Want the number lower? A cheaper velvet grade and lower-density foam cut one bench quote about 14%.
- Send sizes and fabric in one message; the quote Pattern lists what to include.
A cushion price that nearly doubles overnight is usually a sale ending, not a price rise, so ask what changed before you assume the worst.

Buyer questions
- A common question
The price jumped overnight. Did the sale end?
The workshop's answerLikely. Sales run for limited periods; one had four days left when a buyer asked. When a sale ended while a buyer was ordering, the shop refreshed it, and other buyers paid the sale price and had the order shipped later.
- A common question
Why is the price higher now than the first time I looked?
The workshop's answerIn that case the shop hadn't changed its prices at all; a sale was running at the time. Ask the shop before assuming a price rise.
- A common question
Can you honor the price I saw last week?
The workshop's answerNot when the earlier price was a listing error. For a buyer ready to order, the shop offered a payment link at a price between the old and new ones once color and backrest choice were given.
- A common question
Is there a discount if I order two or more cushions?
The workshop's answerIt depends on the set. Several pieces are priced together as one custom quote rather than one listing at a time, and past set quotes came in below the sum of the listing prices. Send every size and fabric in one message so the quote covers the whole set.
Questions buyers ask next
Will choosing velvet instead of linen raise the price?
Usually not by much: size drives the price more than fabric, and on one range velvet, linen and the cotton-type fabric were priced the same. The quote shows any difference. To lower one bench quote, the shop switched to a cheaper velvet grade and lower-density foam, which cut it about 14%.
How long do the cushion sales last?
They run for limited periods. One sale had four days left when a buyer asked. If you're close to ordering when a sale ends, ask the shop; in past cases it refreshed the sale for a buyer ready to order.
Can I lock in a sale price if I don't need the cushions yet?
Past buyers have: they paid the sale price and had the order shipped later, which suits a move or a room that isn't finished. Say when you want it shipped when you place the order, and ask the shop to confirm it can hold the order that long.
