The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

My cushion is bigger than the largest size on the listing. Can I still order it?

The size drop-down is a price bracket, not a ceiling, partner. Your tape measure outranks it.

The quick answer

Yes: choose the largest size option and write your exact measurements, or upload a drawing, and the cushion is made to that size. A 20 x 94 in (51 x 239 cm) cushion was ordered on the 20 x 92 in option. Very long pieces may get a 'Custom for you' option or be priced as two units, yet still sewn as one.

Key facts

  • If your size is beyond the listing, choose the largest option.
  • Production follows the size you write or the drawing you upload, not the option you picked.
  • The drop-down sizes mainly set the price bracket.
  • For very long or unusual sizes, the workshop can add a 'Custom for you' option at the agreed price.
  • An oversize cushion can be priced as two units and still sewn as one piece; write 'make as one piece' in the order.
  • Seats over 150 in (381 cm) can be ordered as two cushions, each with its exact size.

The follow-ups, one message at a time

  1. “Which option do I click?”

The largest one. Need 41 3/8 in (105 cm) deep and the menu stops at 40 1/8 in (102 cm)? Pick the 40¼ in (102 cm) option, write 41¼ in (105 cm).

  2. “Will you really make it 94 in if I chose 92?”

Yes. The written size or uploaded drawing is what gets cut; the option sets the price. The personalization note is where it goes.

  3. “It's way past the menu. Now what?”

For very long or unusual sizes, the workshop adds a 'Custom for you' option to the listing at the agreed price.

  4. “It's priced as two cushions. Do I get two?”

Only if you want two. A 106.5 in (271 cm) banquette cushion priced as two 20 x 52 in (51 x 132 cm) units was sewn as one. Write 'make as one piece' in the order.

  5. “Should I split it anyway?”

Past 150 in, often yes. The Pattern on one piece or two helps decide where.

A real project

A 154.5 in window seat, ordered as two

A buyer in the US had a window seat over 150 in (381 cm) long. It was ordered as two corduroy cushions of 77.25 x 22 in (196 x 56 cm), 154.5 in (392 cm) end to end. The buyer picked the closest size option and wrote each cushion's exact size and fabric in the Personalization box.

Why the menu stops where it does

A listing can't hold every length a real room produces, so the drop-down stops somewhere. Past that point the price is set by hand, and the cushion is still cut from your numbers. Give the exact size of the space, not a trimmed one: the workshop handles the sewing allowances.

For long bench cushions and window seat cushions, try the bench cushion builder, and read the Pattern on sizes that aren't on the menu.

What does your tape read, wall to wall?

Priced as two, sewn as one: an oversize bench cushion can be billed as two units and still made in one piece if the order says 'make as one piece'.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

My cushion is bigger than your largest option. Can I still order?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Pick the largest range, for example 40¼ in (102 cm) deep when you need 41¼ in (105 cm), and give your real measurements or a drawing. Production follows your exact size, not the range.

  2. A common question

My cushion is a bit longer than anything in the size menu. How do I order?

    The workshop's answer

    Choose the closest listed size, such as 20 x 92 in for 20 x 94 in, or 19¾ x 35½ in (50 x 90 cm) for 20½ x 35½ in (52 x 90 cm), and write your exact dimensions in the personalization box. That's the size that's made.

  3. A common question

My window seat is over 150 in. Can it come in two pieces?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Send each cushion's exact size, here two at 77.25 x 22 in, pick the closest menu option, and write both sizes and the fabric in Personalization. The pair shipped free to the US.

  4. A common question

Should I order the cushion a little smaller than my bench so it fits?

    The workshop's answer

No. Give the exact size of the space; the workshop handles sewing allowances. Go smaller only for gaps between cushions or a lift-up lid that must clear.

Questions buyers ask next

Do I pay for my exact size or for the option I picked?

For the option you pick: its price is what you pay, while the cushion is cut to the size you write. For sizes far beyond the menu, the workshop sets an agreed price through a 'Custom for you' option instead.

How big can a corner floor cushion go?

The standard maximum is 48 in (122 cm) per side, though a 58 in (147 cm) corner cushion has been made. Small ones go down to 25 x 25 in (64 x 64 cm), and standard sizes are about 8 in (20 cm) thick.

Will a long cushion sewn in one piece match my number exactly?

Sizes are made as written, not rounded, but handmade cushions can vary slightly, and tufted ones by 1-2 in. Piping adds a little to the outer size, so say whether your total must include it.
