The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

Does the covers-only floor sofa listing include the foam and metal frame?

A cover is a dress without the dancer: lovely, but it won't stand up on its own.

The quick answer

No, a teddy sofa covers-only order is just the empty fabric covers, with no foam inserts and no metal support bars. For a finished sofa, order the filled version, which includes both. The workshop messages every covers-only buyer to confirm before production and cancels mistaken orders so the filled sofa can be ordered instead.

“Is this a couch, or only its covers?”

Only its covers, my friends. The covers-only option is the teddy sofa's fabric skin, every piece shaped, zipped and empty. No foam inside, no metal bars underneath.

If you want to sit on it the week it arrives, order the filled version, which includes both. Foam bought separately afterward costs most of the filled sofa's price, so covers-only rarely saves anything when you are starting from an empty floor.

A real project

“I thought I'd ordered the whole couch”

A buyer in the US wrote to the workshop after checkout: they had ordered the covers while expecting the sofa. It happens often enough that the workshop now writes to every covers-only buyer before a single seam is sewn, and a mistaken order is canceled so the filled sofa can be ordered instead. A listing whose materials section wrongly mentioned foam and metal supports was corrected, too.

“Then who is covers-only for?”

For the sofa you already have. A cream set that has seen three winters, or a camel you have grown tired of: new covers change the room without changing the seat. The floor sofa replacement covers Pattern walks through it, and the cushion covers hub shows the rest.

Do you already have the foam, or are you starting fresh? Color is the first comfort, but a sofa needs the second one too.

Covers only on a floor sofa means the fabric skin alone; if you want to sit on it when it arrives, order the filled version with foam and bars.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Does the covers-only floor sofa listing include the foam cushions and frame?

    The workshop's answer

No. It ships only the fabric covers, with no foam inserts and no metal frame. Because buyers sometimes think they bought the whole sofa, the workshop messages every covers-only buyer to confirm before production, and mistaken orders are canceled so the full sofa can be ordered.

  2. A common question

Do the covers come with foam and metal bars?

    The workshop's answer

No, it is empty covers only. For a complete sofa, buy the filled version, which includes foam and metal bars. The shop checks covers-only orders and cancels and redirects any placed by mistake.

  3. A common question

How much more would the foam and metal bars be on top of the covers?

    The workshop's answer

The foam filling, bought separately, was quoted at most of the filled sofa's price, with the metal bars as a smaller extra on top. Buyers who want a finished sofa are pointed to the filled listing.

  4. A common question

Can I buy only the covers for the floor sofa and ottoman, without filling?

    The workshop's answer

Yes, unfilled covers are sold. Metal support bars aren't included; they were quoted separately as a set of 5.

Questions buyers ask next

How should floor sofa covers be washed?

Each cover has a hidden zipper, so it comes off completely and can be machine washed at 86°F (30°C) or lower. Only tufted cushions are sewn closed; floor sofa covers are fully removable.

How many metal bars does a standard floor sofa use?

The standard floor sofa uses 4 identical metal bars, 2 for the sides and 2 for the back. Cushions arrive in their covers and only the bars need connecting; a setup video is sent on request.

Where does the zipper sit on each cover, and will it show?

Every cover gets a zipper at no extra charge, hidden on the back edge or underside; on bench cushions it wraps around two corners. If you can see it, the cushion is probably upside down.
