The Cutting Table · a common question

Do you make bench cushions for clinics, offices, schools or public buildings?

Also asked as:Custom cushions for bench seating in a clinic. We had custom reading benches put in our office.

We do, and the paperwork is lighter than you'd think. A photo and a tape measure get the quote started.

The quick answer

Yes: the workshop makes custom bench cushions for clinics, offices, early-learning classrooms and public buildings. Send a photo of the benches and the measurements of each section for a quote. Long backrests can be split, like a 76 in (193 cm) back made as two halves, but hook-and-loop wall mounting isn't offered at the moment.

What goes in the quote request

  • A photo of the benches as they stand.
  • The length and depth of every section, not just the total run.
  • Anything that lifts, like a storage lid, so any split lands in the right place.
  • The height available for a backrest, such as the gap up to a window.
  • Which benches are identical, so they can be quoted as a batch.
A real project

A welcome center bench under a window

A public welcome center in the US wrote to the workshop about a 76 in (193 cm) lift-up storage bench under a window. They wanted a backrest, with hook-and-loop sewn on so it could hang on the wall. The space between the bench top and the window was 14 in (35.5 cm).

The answer was two backrest pieces, each half the length, sized to that 14 in height. Halves come away easily, which matters on a bench whose lid has to open. The hook-and-loop, though, we had to decline for now.

Classrooms, clinics and reading benches

Right, then. The institutional work reads like a walk through town: a clinic's waiting bench, custom reading benches in an office, two classrooms at an early-learning center that needed 40 x 40 in (102 x 102 cm) corner cushions, and office benches in several sections. None of it is exotic. It is bench cushions with an invoice that can carry your organization's name and billing address.

For foam and fabric specs, see cushions for cafés, rentals and offices; for long runs, one piece or two explains where a split belongs. How many benches are we talking about, dear?

Custom bench cushions for an office or clinic start with two things: a photo of the benches and the measurements of each section.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Can you make cushions for our office reading benches, or for classrooms?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Send a picture of the benches with each section's measurements for a quote. The shop has made 40 x 40 in (102 x 102 cm) corner cushions for early-learning classrooms and multi-section office bench cushions.

  2. A common question

Do you make custom cushions for bench seating in a clinic?

    The workshop's answer

Yes, commercial bench cushions are made to order; the shop just needs the sizes to quote.

  3. A common question

Can you make a backrest for a lift-up storage bench at our welcome center, with velcro to hang it on the wall?

    The workshop's answer

The shop can make two backrest pieces for the 76 in bench, each half the length, to fit the 14 in space between the bench top and the window. Hook-and-loop wall mounting isn't offered at the moment.

  4. A common question

Can the invoice show our organization's name?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. The invoice is issued or amended with your company or organization name and billing address, and it can be sent right away if your accounts team has a deadline.

  5. A common question

Do you discount identical cushions for several rooms?

    The workshop's answer

Often, yes: identical batches have drawn the biggest per-piece cuts, and one quote for 26 matching bench cushions came in well under list per piece. Each bulk quote is calculated individually and shows the shipping cost, so send the size, quantity and fabric for every room together.

Questions buyers ask next

Can bench cushions in a public space come off easily for cleaning?

Splitting helps. A long backrest made as two halves is easier to lift off than one long piece, which is why halves were suggested for a 76 in welcome center bench. Ask about removable covers when you request the quote.

Can one quote cover benches in several rooms?

Yes. Send a photo of each bench and the measurements of each section, noting which ones are identical. The classroom job covered two rooms, and identical batches earn the biggest bulk reductions, calculated case by case.

Why won't the workshop add hook-and-loop to hang a backrest on the wall?

Hook-and-loop wall mounting was declined 'at the moment', which leaves room for change, so ask again when you order. Until then, plan a backrest that rests against the wall or the window frame instead.
