Why the first number looked small
A low first quote is usually a seat-only quote. Nothing was hidden. It priced what was asked for.

Why is a handmade cushion set priced above a mass-market one?
Each piece is made to order with dense filling, double stitching and express shipping. Matching a much cheaper quote would mean sponge-mix filling, single stitching, lower-grade fabric and slow cargo, which the workshop doesn't do.
How is a daybed or twin-size floor mattress cushion priced?
By size. Twin XL (38 x 80 in) and larger sizes are quoted from your measurements, and a double came to roughly twice a twin. Ask for the current processing and delivery times in writing with the quote.
Can the floor sofa's metal support bars be bought on their own?
