An ivory dotted chenille window seat on shaker drawers, and how to order one without a second email
Built-ins are where good orders get tested: drawers below, an oak frame around, and no room for a cushion that overhangs. Here is what this quiet ivory seat teaches about codes, sketches and size options.
Without piping, the ivory weave rounds softly over the edge, giving the built-in a relaxed, upholstered look.
The quick answer
To order a custom window seat cushion for a built-in right the first time, send the exact size, a clear sketch and the fabric code, and write the true measurements in the personalization note even when you select a larger size option. The standard thickness is 4 in; other thicknesses are made to order, and odd-angled seats are checked on a scale drawing before cutting.
A pale seat, no cord, and drawer fronts that set the rules
Pull up a chair, because this seat looks simple and isn't. Every line in it was ordered.
The cushion is an ivory and oatmeal chenille with a two-tone dotted weave, laid on a built-in window seat with shaker drawers below and an oak frame around. There is no piping. On a nubby weave, a corded edge would draw a hard line through all that softness, so the seam is plain and the cushion rounds over the edge like a mattress. When the weave itself is the feature, skip the cord; the Pattern on piping choices covers the other cases.
The drawers are the strict part. Nothing may overhang the drawer fronts, or every pull becomes a snag and every drawer a wrestle. An exact fit here isn't fussiness. It is the only fit that works.
Ivory keeps the whole window bright, and the oak frame stops it from looking washed out. The props tell one texture story. An oatmeal waffle-knit throw breaks the long rectangle at one end. A stoneware mug waits on the sill beside two cream hardback books. A single eucalyptus stem in a ceramic vase is the only color in the scene. Sheer linen curtains soften the hazy morning, and a diamond-pattern wool rug grounds the floor.
Dotted and textured wovens like this one sit on the jacquard and damask shelf, and more seats for sitting rooms live under living room cushions. What would you set on your sill?
Pinned by Rosa: weave, edge, throw, stem and drawers
Five pins walk from the dotted weave down to the drawer fronts that decide how exact this cushion has to be.

- Ivory dotted weave
The two-tone dots give depth to a pale seat without adding color.
- Unpiped rounded edge
No cord here, so the cushion rolls over the edge like a soft mattress.
- Waffle-knit throw
A draped throw breaks the long rectangle at one end.
- Eucalyptus vase
A single green stem is the only color in the scene.
- Shaker drawer base
With drawers below, an exact fit matters: nothing should overhang the drawer fronts.

A dog, a linen code, and corners that were not square
A dog owner in the US chose L-07 linen for a long angled window seat. The workshop told them it was easy to clean and washable at 86°F (30°C).
The first sketch arrived blurry and had to be sent again. When the workshop drew the second one to scale, the slanted edges didn't match the written 35 in (89 cm). The window's corners weren't square, so the numbers could never all be true at once.
So the workshop cut from the edges that sit against the walls: a 112 in (284 cm) long edge, an 18 in (46 cm) depth, and end sections of 32.5 in (83 cm) and 31 in (79 cm). The short edge came to about 48.5 in (123 cm), and the diagonals followed the real geometry. The buyer confirmed the drawing, and the cushion went into production.
Here is the lesson, neighbor: when corners are out of square, trust the wall edges and let a scale drawing settle the rest. The trapezoid cushion calculator will show you whether your numbers close.
The order message for a built-in, line by line
- The fabric code from the chart, copied exactly. Ivory and oatmeal are descriptions; the code is what gets cut.
- The exact size in the personalization note, even when the size option you select is a little bigger.
- Thickness in inches. The standard bench cushion is 4 in (10 cm); say so if you want another.
- Piping or none, in words. On a nubby weave like this, write 'no piping'.
- A clear sketch or photo for anything that isn't a plain rectangle, with the wall edges marked.
- For a banquette with several runs, one line per cushion, each with its own size.

Buyer questions: size options, thickness and a U-shaped nook
- A common question
My cushion is shorter than the size option I have to pick. Do I pay for the bigger size?
The workshop's answerYou select the option above your size, and sometimes the workshop refunds part of the difference. It did so when a 73 in (185 cm) cushion was ordered under a 76 in (193 cm) option, and it offered a goodwill partial refund on another out-of-standard size.
- A common question
How thick are your bench cushions?
The workshop's answerThe standard bench cushion is 4 in (10 cm) thick. Other thicknesses are made to order, from 3 in (8 cm) up to 12 in (30 cm) for sofa seat cushions.
- A common question
How do I order cushions for a U-shaped banquette with welting?
The workshop's answerOrder each cushion at its own size on the listing, for example two sides at 63.5 x 21.5 in (161 x 55 cm) and a back at 93.5 x 21.5 in (237 x 55 cm). Choose the thickness, 2 in in this case, and write your fabric code. Welting comes as standard, and the pet-friendly chart has taupe tones.
A window seat cushion over drawers must stop at the drawer fronts; any overhang turns every drawer pull into a snag.

Questions buyers ask next
Why leave the piping off a chenille window seat cushion?
On a nubby or dotted chenille, a cord adds a hard line that competes with the texture. A plain seam lets the cushion round softly over the edge, like a mattress, so the weave stays the feature. Piping suits smoother fabrics and seats that want a crisp front.
Does an ivory cushion look washed out on a white built-in?
It can, unless something frames it. Here the oak surround gives the ivory an edge to sit against, and the waffle throw and eucalyptus add texture and one note of green. Warm wood or a single strong accent keeps a pale seat from disappearing.
What should I measure first when the window corners aren't square?
Measure the edges that sit against the walls: the long back edge, the depth and each end section. Then let a scale drawing settle the diagonals instead of forcing every written number to agree. The workshop confirms that drawing with you before it cuts.
