A caramel bouclé window seat cushion, where texture does the pattern's work

Not one printed fabric in this room, and it's still full of pattern. Pull up a chair and I'll show you where it's hiding.

A thick caramel bouclé cushion on a plaster plinth, running beside oak-framed arched windows.

The quick answer

To mix patterns around a window seat cushion, let one surface carry the pattern and let texture do the rest. Here a plain caramel bouclé seat sits over a herringbone oak floor, with jute, linen and cream and sage bouclé pillows around it. For a custom window seat, send exact depth × length, like 17 × 95 in (43 × 241 cm).

Where the pattern is hiding

Start with the floor. Herringbone oak is a pattern, and a busy one, so it does the job a striped cushion might do in a plainer room. The cushion stays plain: caramel bouclé, cut thick, with self piping that reads as a ridge of loops rather than a line of color.

That caramel matches the oak window frames almost exactly, so the seat looks built into the arches. The plinth is hard white plaster, which is why the cushion is cut deep and soft: on masonry, the cushion is all the give there is.

Read the props like a porch. The cream pillow brightens the shadowed corner. The sage one repeats the olive branch on the walnut shelf and the olive tree in its stone pot. The terracotta amphora print carries the cushion's warmth up the wall. Jute underfoot and a linen curtain add two more textures, and none of them is printed.

The pillows gather in one corner, away from the glass, leaving a long clear run for a book and a nap. That's what window seat cushions are for, neighbor. So what pattern is already on your floor?

Five places the texture shows

Five spots where this room trades print for texture.

  1. Caramel bouclé seat

The thick caramel cushion softens a hard plaster plinth into a lounging seat.

  2. Cream pillow

Cream against the wall adds brightness where the corner falls into shadow.

  3. Sage pillow

Sage picks up the olive branch on the shelf above.

  4. Amphora print

The terracotta art repeats the cushion's warm tone higher on the wall.

  5. Oak arched window

Oak-framed arches share the cushion's honey color.

The 95-inch seat no size list covered

A buyer in the US measured a dining room window seat at 17 × 95 in (43 × 241 cm), and nothing on the size list came close. They wanted it plush and tufted, in gray or dark gray, like the tufted linen floor cushion they'd admired.

Nobody asked them to settle for near enough. The workshop quoted the exact 17 × 95 in and sent a direct purchase link for that size. Long benches nearly always go this way: a size that isn't on the menu starts with two honest numbers, depth and length.

Sizes
17 × 95 in (43 × 241 cm)

The lesson: Long benches almost always need a custom quote; send exact depth × length.

Three questions about sizes that aren't on the list

  1. A common question

Can you make a cushion to my exact size, even longer than 79 in (200 cm)?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Everything is made to exact measurements, and going past 78¾ in (200 cm) is no problem. For a rectangle, choose the size range that covers your numbers and type the exact size in the personalization box. Angled shapes use the custom-shape listing.

  2. A common question

My bench has notches on one side and an angled end. How do I order that?

    The workshop's answer

Use the custom-shape listing, choosing by the longest length and deepest depth. At checkout, upload a drawing with every edge measured and a photo of the space. A paper sketch is fine; if it's hard to read, you'll be asked for a larger one.

  3. A common question

What does a custom-size window seat cushion cost?

    The workshop's answer

It's quoted by size, fabric and shape. An odd size is priced from the nearest listed option: a 13.5 × 49 in tufted cushion was priced from the 14 × 48 in option.

If the floor already carries a pattern, like herringbone oak, keep the window seat cushion plain and let bouclé texture do the talking.

Questions buyers ask next

Will a bouclé window seat fade in strong sun?

Indoor fabrics have limited UV resistance and can fade in strong, prolonged sun. A warm mid-tone like caramel shows it less than a pale shade, and turning the cushion now and then evens out the light.

How many pillows belong on a long window seat?

Two or three, gathered at one end, is plenty. Leave the rest of the seat clear so someone can stretch out; a thick cushion on a long plinth is a daybed in disguise.

Should a window seat cushion be striped or plain?

Plain if the floor, rug or curtains already carry a pattern, a stripe if the room is quiet. Striped cotton is for indoors, and stripes run front to back by default because of the roll width.
