The Cutting Table · a common question
The listing shows a delivery estimate. Why hasn't my order shipped yet?
Also asked as:It hasn't even shipped yetThe estimated delivery keeps getting pushed back
A cushion has to be sewn before it can ride in a truck. The delivery days on the listing cover only the truck.
The quick answer
The delivery estimate shown on a listing counts only transit time, not the days a handmade piece spends being made. Production comes first: shorter for floor sofas, longer for custom cushions and longest for special cushions. So on custom work the automatic estimate can pass before the order even ships. Tell the workshop about any deadline and ask for current times in writing.
SaveKey facts

- Special cushions take longer to process than standard ones.
- The automatic delivery estimate counts only transit, so it can pass before a handmade order ships.
- Flag a deadline, such as a move-in date, in the order note and ask whether the order can be put ahead and sent expedited.

What comes before the delivery days
| Order | Made in the workshop | What to ask or send |
|---|---|---|
| Floor sofa | Made to order; the quickest of the made pieces | Your dispatch date, and whether a stock sofa fits a tight deadline |
| Custom cushion | Cut and sewn to your size first | Full measurements up front, and the making time with your quote |
| Special cushion | Extra handwork such as tufting or shaped foam | The making time for that detail, not just the size |
| Curved or complex shape | Template and cutting come first; the longest | The template or marked photos as early as you can |
| Large outdoor project | Planned per project | Timing for the whole set, and whether the pieces ship together |
Why the date on the screen runs ahead of the sewing
Here's a message the workshop sees more often than you'd think: the listing showed a few days of delivery, the week is nearly out, and the sofa hasn't moved. Nothing has gone wrong, neighbor. The clock on the screen is a shipping clock.
Every floor sofa and every cushion is made after you order it. Production comes first, then the box goes out, and only then does the truck's clock start. The automatic estimate doesn't know that. It counts only transit days, as if the piece were already on a shelf, so on handmade work the date it shows can pass before the order even ships.
If a date matters, like a move-in day, say so in your order note. The workshop can say whether the order can be put ahead and sent expedited. And if the room is still taking shape, the floor sofa buying Pattern is good reading while you wait.
What date are you working toward?
Got a move-in date? Do this
Name the date when you order
Put the deadline in the order note so the workshop sees it before production starts.
Ask about expedited shipping
For urgent orders, ask whether the work can be put ahead and sent by expedited shipping.
Consider ready-made pieces
Stock sofas and in-stock 28 x 56 in (71 x 142 cm) cushion sets go out sooner than custom work; ask for the current dispatch date.
Ask for a photo before dispatch
Ask for pictures of the finished piece and its measured size before it leaves; past buyers have received both.
The delivery days on a cushion listing are the truck, not the sewing machine; a custom cushion is made in the workshop first, so ask for the making time too.

Buyer questions
- A common question
The website says 3-5 day delivery. Why hasn't my sofa shipped?
The workshop's answerThat delivery figure is shipping time only. Sofas also need processing and production before they go out; ask the workshop for your dispatch date. If you have a deadline such as a move-in date, tell the workshop and ask whether expedited shipping can help.
- A common question
How long does a custom order take before it ships?
The workshop's answerLonger than a standard one: production comes first, then delivery, and special cushions take longer still. Because everything is handmade and the automatic estimate counts only transit, the date it shows can pass before your order ships; ask the workshop for the real count with your quote.
- A common question
Could a custom cushion be made and delivered in just a few days?
The workshop's answerUsually not for fully custom pieces. Handmade production needs several days before express delivery even starts. Ready-made standard sets may meet short deadlines, so ask the workshop before ordering.
- A common question
Can I see a photo of my cushion before it ships?
The workshop's answerUsually, if you ask: past buyers received photos of the finished cushion before dispatch, and the workshop has waited for approval and confirmed the final measured size. Tone can look slightly different in phone photos.
Questions buyers ask next
Which pieces ship the fastest?
Ready-made stock. Stock sofas and in-stock 28 x 56 in (71 x 142 cm) cushion sets go out sooner than custom cushions, which are made by hand before they ship. Ask the workshop for current dispatch times.
Do curved or oversized cushions take longer to make?
Yes. Standard cushions are quickest, curved or complex shapes and large outdoor projects take longer, and one-off master-craftsman pieces longest, all before delivery. Your quote gives the time for your piece.
Does a passed delivery date mean something went wrong?
Usually not. The automatic estimate doesn't account for handmade production, so on custom orders the displayed date can pass while the cushion is still being sewn. Message the workshop and ask where your order stands.
