Same foam, same cloth
The ottoman feels like the sofa because it is made of the sofa's foam. On the corduroy sofa it is corduroy too.
Its two layers are joined. Folded, it is a square footrest. Opened, it lies flat as a longer rectangle, like two pillows side by side. If you would rather have two loose cushions, ask for the layers as separate pieces.

What holds the backrests up on a modular floor sofa?
Four free-standing metal frames, two at the sides and two at the back, keep the backrests from sliding or tipping when you lean. They are not attached to the cushions and stay put once you sit.
