The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

Can I buy the metal support bars for my floor sofa separately?

The bars are the quiet part of a floor sofa. You notice them when one is missing.

The quick answer

Usually yes: spare metal support bars have their own listing, or the workshop sends a custom purchase link, normally for a set of 4 (one for each side of the sofa), and pairs of 2 are possible too. Only regular-length bars are made; there's no single long back bar. Occasionally, bars for a single teddy sofa were offered only with an extra cover set.

Do the bars sell on their own?

Usually. Spare bars have their own listing, or a custom purchase link is sent. The usual spare set is 4, one for each side of the sofa. Pairs of 2 are possible.

Not always, though. In some past cases, bars for a single teddy sofa weren't sold alone and were offered as an add-on to an extra cover set. Ask before you plan around it.

The metal support bars are what let the modular floor sofa stand in the middle of a room; they hold it at the sides and back. A tufted floor sofa with no back frame leans on a wall instead. Where does yours stand?

Chair or single?

On the bar listing, chair means 2 pieces. Single means 1 piece. Each ottoman also comes with one bar of its own.

One long bar instead of two short ones?

No. Only regular-length bars are made, and they work as designed. A request for two regular bars and one long bar across the back got that answer.

If the bars you have keep coming apart, the fix is in the joints, not the length. The support bars Pattern shows how to seat them.

A real project

The ottoman that became a 3-seater

A buyer in the US wanted more sofa from an ottoman set. Adding a straight backrest turned it into a 3-seater, and that backrest needed one more bar. The workshop included the extra bar free.

A bar is small. A missing bar is a lean. Count them the day the box arrives.

The chair option on the floor sofa bar listing is 2 pieces; the single option is 1 piece.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Do you sell the metal support bars or brackets on their own?

    The workshop's answer

Usually yes, as a set of 4, one for each side of the sofa, through a custom purchase link. Once, the workshop declined to sell bars alone for a single teddy sofa.

  2. A common question

Can I buy just the metal bars for my teddy-style sofa?

    The workshop's answer

In this conversation, no: the bars weren't sold on their own, but they could be added to an extra set of teddy sofa covers, or to a covers-only order, for an extra charge.

  3. A common question

Could I get two regular bars and one long bar instead of four regular ones?

    The workshop's answer

No. Only the regular bars are made, and they work well as designed.

  4. A common question

Does the floor sofa come with the metal bars, and how many?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. A single teddy sofa includes 4 bars, a 3-seater 5, the L-shape with ottoman 6, and a full corner set 8 large plus 8 small pieces. If bars are missing, photograph what came and message the workshop.

  5. A common question

The metal bars on my floor sofa keep coming apart. What do I do?

    The workshop's answer

Re-seat each joint until the dots click and put a rug or fabric under the bars. If they still separate, send the workshop photos or a short video of the joint. In past cases the workshop sent updated or one-piece bars that need no assembly.

Questions buyers ask next

What does a spare bar set usually contain?

Normally 4 bars, one for each side of the sofa. Pairs of 2 are possible too. On the bar listing, the chair option gives you 2 pieces and the single option 1, so match the option to the gap you need to fill.

Does an ottoman come with its own bar?

Yes, each ottoman comes with one bar. When a straight backrest was added to turn an ottoman set into a 3-seater, the extra bar it needed was included free with the backrest.

Can a floor sofa stand away from the wall?

The modular teddy floor sofa can, because metal bars at the sides and back make it freestanding. The tufted French-style floor sofa has no back frame and is meant to lean against a wall.
