The Cutting Table · a common question

Which cushion fabric is easiest to clean with kids?

Also asked as:Which fabric is easiest to clean? Is it performance velvet?

Juice, crayon, a buttered cracker face-down. Every fabric here washes the same way, so the real question is what wipes clean between washes.

The quick answer

The easiest cushion fabric to clean with kids is any of the common ones, because every cover unzips and machine washes at 86°F (30°C) on a delicate cycle. Between washes, 926 and L-07 are slightly easier to spot clean. For children's rooms, the velvet series is the most popular pick: soft, highly durable and easy to wipe down.

Same wash, different wipe

Here's the gentle truth, my friends: every common fabric, K-18, 926, L-07 and N04, has exactly the same care. The cover unzips, goes into the machine at 86°F (30°C) on a delicate cycle, and comes back ready. So with children the choice is really about the wipe between washes, and there 926 and L-07 are slightly easier to spot clean.

For kids' rooms, the velvet series is the one families choose most (112, a burnt terracotta, is one example): soft, highly durable and easy to wipe down. A buyer asked if it was “performance velvet”. We don't use that term. Velvet has no stain-repellent coating; its protection is washability, and a fabric protector spray is your own option once the covers arrive.

Every cushion already has a hidden zipper, so washable and neat are never a trade-off. The kid-friendly fabric pattern and the kids' room cushions go further. Which stain are you bracing for: juice, marker or muddy knees?

Wash day for a zip-off cover

  1. Unzip and turn inside out

Take the cover off the foam and turn it inside out.

  2. Wash cool and gentle

86°F (30°C) at most, on a gentle or delicate cycle, with mild detergent and no bleach.

  3. Air dry

Skip the tumble dryer if you can; if not, low heat only, never high.

  4. Iron low if needed

Use a low setting, then zip the cover back over the foam.

Every common cushion fabric washes the same way, zip-off at 86°F (30°C) on delicate; with kids, the difference is how easily it spot cleans.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Do the covers come off, and how should I wash them?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Covers come off completely through the zipper and machine wash at 86°F (30°C) on a delicate cycle. K-18, 926, L-07 and N04 share that care, with 926 or L-07 slightly easier to spot clean, and even grease marks from a damaged parcel should wash out.

  2. A common question

Velvet in a kids' room: do I need a hidden zipper, or just spot clean?

    The workshop's answer

Both are covered. The velvet series is the most popular choice for children's rooms, soft, durable and easy to wipe down, and every cushion already has a hidden zipper so the cover can be machine washed at 86°F (30°C).

  3. A common question

Are the fabrics stain-resistant, and can I spray a protector on them?

    The workshop's answer

Mostly the protection is washability: covers unzip and wash at 86°F (30°C). The teddy fabric is water-repellent, velvet has no stain-repellent coating, and you can apply a fabric protector spray yourself once the covers arrive.

  4. A common question

Are the floor sofa covers removable and washable too?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Every floor sofa cover unzips and machine washes at 86°F (30°C) max on a gentle cycle; take off the white non-slip bottom first.

Questions buyers ask next

Can cushion covers go in the tumble dryer?

Air drying is best. If you use a dryer on fabric covers, choose the low setting and never high heat, and keep non-slip bottom pieces or rubber-backed covers out of the dryer entirely.

Will a grease mark come out of the cover?

It should. Even grease marks from a parcel damaged in transit were expected to come out in the normal 86°F (30°C) delicate wash, so try that before anything stronger.

What detergent is safe for the covers?

A mild detergent with no bleach. Turn the cover inside out, wash at 86°F (30°C) at most on a gentle cycle, air dry, and iron on low if needed.
