The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

Can I order the floor sofa now at the sale price and have it delivered after I move?

Plenty of sofas get bought for a house that doesn't have its keys yet. The workshop hears this one often, and the answer is a kind one.

The quick answer

Yes, you can order the floor sofa now at the current price and have delivery held until after your move. Write your date in the order notes or send a message, and dispatch waits so it won't arrive before then. Orders go into production right away, though, so cancelling a held order later leaves the maker with a finished sofa.

“Can I lock in the price and wait on delivery?”

Yes, neighbor, and the workshop says it gets this request often. Place the order at today's price, write your date in the order notes or send a message, and dispatch is held so the sofa can't beat you to the new house. Buyers in the US have asked for a sofa to wait until June, or until a date in late November. Those dates went straight into the order note.

“What if we get the keys early?”

Send a message and the held order ships right away instead. It's already made: orders go into production as soon as they're placed. That's also why cancelling a held order months later leaves the maker holding a finished sofa, so settle the fabric before you settle the date.

If you're still deciding how the pieces will sit in the new room, the layouts pattern and small apartment floor sofa layouts help. The sofas themselves are under modular floor sofas. When do you get your keys?

“Anything to know for delivery day?”

  • No post office delivery. Give a street address; the workshop can hold a delivery until you're home.
  • No signature needed at the door.
  • A label isn't a pickup. A shipping label may be created before the courier actually collects the parcel.
  • Already shipped when your date moves: reschedule directly with the carrier.

A floor sofa ordered now for delivery after a move is made right away and held finished, so settle the fabric code before you write the date in the order note.

Questions buyers ask next

Can a sofa order be timed for a housewarming or another event?

Often, if you order early and put the deadline in the order note. Past event orders were flagged urgent and shipped express, and dates several weeks out were met; a last-minute holiday deadline is the risky one, so give the date before you pay.

What happens if my fabric is out of stock when I order?

You choose: switch to an in-stock fabric so production starts at once, or wait for the mill to reweave it, which pushes the start back. Discontinued fabrics are replaced with a close in-stock match.

Does someone need to be home to sign for the sofa boxes?

No signature is required on delivery. The workshop can hold a delivery until you're home, but it can't send it to a post office, so give a street address where the boxes can be left.
