The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
My sofa's metal bars arrived bent or peeling. Can you replace them?
A floor sofa with one crooked bar is like a porch swing on one short chain: everybody notices. Here is how a replacement request goes, one follow-up at a time.

The quick answer
Bent, peeling or badly fitting metal bars on a modular floor sofa start with a photo or a video sent to the workshop the day you spot them. Past replacements were a full set or only the faulty piece, such as a corner connector, one side, a U-shaped base or a rubber foot, and buyers kept the old bars. Ask the workshop to confirm its answer in writing.

Key facts
- Photos or a video of the faulty bar are what the workshop asks for first.
- You can get a full set or only the faulty piece: a corner connector, one side, a U-shaped base or a rubber foot.
- Replacements ship by FedEx or UPS with tracking.
- The old bars do not need to be returned.
- Scratched but usable brackets: choose a partial refund or new bars.
- The bar design has since been updated based on customer feedback.
- A full set is 4 pieces per sofa, 2 at the sides and 2 at the back; a corner set uses more.
- The bars stand behind backrests about 15 in (39 cm) tall on a sofa about 79 x 39 in (200 x 100 cm) with a 13.5 to 14.5 in seat height.

Every good cushion I know started with a long porch chat. This is the short version: leave your number and the workshop will call. — Rosa

First message: a photo, or a video of the joint
Neighbor, this is one of the easier problems to sort out. When the metal bars behind a modular floor sofa arrive bent, flaking or refusing to lock, the workshop asks for a picture first. Photos or a video are enough. Nobody asks you to box anything up.
The bars stand behind the backrests so nothing tips when you lean. A bar that won't sit right means a backrest that won't either, so it is worth reporting, not living with.
Which metal bar faults are worth a photo to the workshop?
- Chrome that flakes or peels and leaves silver bits behind
- A bent or crooked piece, the U-shaped base included
- Misshaped ends, or joints that won't sit flush or hold together
- Paint that dried over the joints
- Rust or discoloration straight out of the box
- A missing rubber foot
Follow-up: do I have to mail the old bars back?
In past cases, no: buyers kept them, and the new ones traveled by FedEx or UPS with a tracking number, a full set when several pieces were wrong, or just the one corner connector, side or foot.
If a bracket is scratched but still works, a partial refund or new bars have both been offered. Light surface marks from production often wipe off, so try a cloth first. If a joint is only stiff, read the support bar assembly notes before you write.
Silver flakes in a house with small children
A buyer in the US wrote in because the chrome on the sofa's poles had started to flake, in a home with small children on the floor. Kids and dogs are the real quality control, and these kids found the weak spot first.
The buyer was already ordering new covers. The workshop looked at the photos and shipped a new metal bar set by FedEx with them, so the sofa came back together at once.
- What it taught
- Flaking chrome is worth reporting, not a cosmetic note: send the photo the day you see it.
Photograph a bent floor sofa bar the day the box opens and message the workshop; in past cases only the faulty corner, side or rubber foot was replaced.

Buyer questions
- A common question
One of the U-shaped metal pieces under my sofa is bent. Can I get just that piece?
The workshop's answerSend a photo of the bent piece to the workshop the day you find it; in past cases a replacement for just that piece shipped.
- A common question
My frame bars came rusty and won't fit together. Do I send them back first?
The workshop's answerNo. Photograph or film the bars the day they arrive and message the workshop, neighbor. In past cases it sent a new set, or only the corner connectors, by FedEx, and the old bars stayed with the buyer.
- A common question
A bracket arrived scratched and missing its rubber foot. What are my options?
The workshop's answerSend a photo; replacement bars or feet have shipped in past cases. For purely cosmetic scratches on a bracket that still works, a partial refund was offered as the alternative.
Questions buyers ask next
What do the metal bars on a floor sofa actually do?
They stop the backrests sliding back or tipping when you lean. Four free-standing frames, two at the sides and two at the back, sit behind the backrests; they aren't attached and stay put once you sit.
Can I buy a spare set of bars for my floor sofa?
Yes, if you own the sofa. A replacement set, four bars per sofa, is sold through a private link. The bars aren't sold on their own for other furniture.
Should I try cleaning marks off new bars before reporting them?
Yes. Light surface marks from production often wipe off. Flaking chrome, rust, bends and joints that won't lock are different: photograph them and ask for new bars.
