# Pillow cover studio: see the color sit down before you do

My friends, choose a size, an edge and a cloth, and watch the pillow settle into a sofa corner in the light of your screen — then take the cut list, not the screen, to your maker.

## The quick answer

Pick a size — 16, 18 or 20 in square throws, a 12 × 20 or 14 × 36 in lumbar, or an 8 × 20 in bolster — then the edge: knife, piped or flanged. Choose a hidden zipper or an envelope back, the fabric and the fullness. The studio shows the pillow on a sofa and lists every cut piece, the piping length and the fabric to buy.

The 3D view could not start on this device (WebGL is switched off or blocked). Every control still updates the plan drawing and the cutting ticket below, and the PNG button saves the plan.

### Workshop notes

### What to send the workshop
- This ticket with sizes and quantities.
- Fabric and piping codes, written as “body” and “piping”.
- For covers only: the insert’s exact size, measured flat.
- A photo of the sofa or bench they will sit on, in daylight.

## Buyer questions

Every control in this builder answers a question buyers commonly ask. Here are some of them, with the workshop’s answers.

## How to use the builder

## Bolsters made entirely in the piping stripe

A buyer ordered two bench cushions in a deep red with black-and-white striped piping, and two long bolsters, about 7 by 65 in and 7 by 47 in. Then came the good idea: make the bolsters entirely in the stripe. The red speaks, the stripe answers, and the two never argue.

Try it here: choose the bolster, the striped cotton and a fine scale, and put the pillow beside a plain one. Let one color speak and the others listen.

Choose the piping color by daylight, beside the sofa — never from the screen alone.

## Made from tickets like this one

Slate blue velvet with mustard piping gives a Hemnes daybed a relaxed boho finish. Rattan, palms and a vintage rug build on the warm trim.

Self-piping in each cushion's own color: the edge stays sharp while the palette stays soft.

## Questions about the builder

### What size insert goes in a flanged cover?

The insert fills the stuffed body only, so a 20 × 20 in cover with a 2 in flange needs a 16 × 16 in insert. The ticket shows the body size whenever you choose a flange.

### Knife edge or piping on a velvet pillow?

Velvet already catches the light on its pile. Self piping gives it a crisp line without a second color; a contrast cord turns the edge into a drawing. Both are sewn the same way.

### Which way should stripes run on a long lumbar?

Stripes running up and down repeat many times across a 36 in lumbar and feel lively; stripes running along the length stretch it. Tell your maker which you want — it changes how the panels are cut.

### Does the studio work without WebGL?

Partly. Without WebGL the 3D pillow cannot be drawn, but every control still updates the front-view drawing and the cut list, and the PNG button saves that drawing to send with your order.
