# A cream corduroy play sofa through the seasons, with a toddler on board

*A toddler, one knee up, pushing a round pillow off the seat. The sofa is built for that. The year around it keeps changing.*

> **The quick answer:** A cream corduroy kids floor sofa changes its job through the year: a climbing frame on winter afternoons, a guest bed when family visits, a low reading seat in summer light. Order it slightly under the space between walls; one family went from 47 1/4 in (120 cm) to 43 1/4 in (110 cm) to leave tolerance.

## What the frame is really showing

The camera is at a child's height. From there you see how low the stacked base is: a toddler gets a knee onto the seat without help. Children measure comfort with their whole body.

The round pillows are loose. Each has a gusset band, so it is a drum, not a disc, and a drum rolls. The bolster at the end gives small hands something to grip. The lower slab takes most of the climbing, which is why firm foam matters there more than anywhere.

Cream fabric, a cream romper and a jute herringbone rug keep the frame soft, so movement is what you notice. Above, a pine ledge holds picture books face out. White cubbies hold blocks and teddy bears. A pine chair waits. The sage walls do the rest.

More builds like this sit under [kids floor sofas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/kids-floor-sofas/), in [corduroy](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/) and other cloths. Where does your child climb first?

One sofa.
Four seasons.
A child a little taller in each.

## Notes pinned to the photo

Five places where play and construction meet.

1. **Pillow being pushed**: The round pillows are loose, so a toddler can push and roll them.
2. **Second round pillow**: Each pillow has a gusset band, giving it depth like a drum rather than a flat disc.
3. **Bolster arm**: The bolster rests on the seat edge and gives small hands something to grip.
4. **Lower base slab**: The bottom slab carries most of the climbing load, so firm foam matters most here.
5. **Book ledge**: Forward-facing books above keep the upper frame light and child-focused.

## The same sofa, four seasons

1. **Winter**: Indoor months. The sofa is a climbing frame, and the round pillows spend more time on the floor than on the seat.
2. **Holidays**: Lay the seat mattresses flat for a guest. Non-slip fabric underneath keeps them side by side.
3. **Spring**: Windows open, a season for cleaning. Ask about washable covers before you order, not after the first spilled juice.
4. **Summer**: Long light on sage walls. The child is taller now, and the sofa becomes a reading seat under the book ledge.

## When 47 inches was too much

A family measured their children's corner and found the 47 1/4 in (120 cm) corner sofa too big. They asked for 44 1/8 in (112 cm) square. The workshop agreed, at the same price, ordered through the 47 1/4 in option with the real size in the note.

Then they talked it over once more and settled on 43 1/4 in (110 cm). The extra 3/4 in (2 cm) was tolerance. It is the part of the story I would copy. The [tolerance Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-size-tolerance/) explains how exact made to measure really is.

## Three questions, one sofa

**A common question:** Are the sofa mattresses firm enough for overnight guests to sleep on?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The seat mattresses are high-density foam, comfortable without being squishy, so laid flat they make a good guest bed.

**A common question:** The order form asks for customization details. What do I write if I just want the standard size?

**The workshop's answer:** If 79 x 39 in (200 x 100 cm) works, write "standard size" and place the order. For any other size, type your measurements in the same box and it is made to order.

**A common question:** Used as a bed, will the two mattresses slide apart?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Non-slip fabric under the sofa mattresses and the ottoman keeps them together side by side. Velcro to join them is not included.

> On a kids play sofa, the bottom base slab carries most of the climbing load, so ask for firm foam there and softer fill in the loose pillows.

> **Tailor's margin:** When a floor cushion must fit between walls, order it about 3/4 in (2 cm) under: a 44 1/8 in request became 43 1/4 in.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Can a toddler climb onto a floor sofa without help?

On a low stacked base like this one, yes: in the photo a toddler gets a knee onto the seat unaided. The bolster at the edge gives small hands something to hold.

### Why are the round pillows loose?

They are not attached to the back wedges, so a child can push, roll and stack them. It also means they end up on the floor, a good reason to ask about washable covers.

### Is cream corduroy sensible in a kids room?

Cream keeps a busy room calm and lets the child's movement lead. If spills worry you, the same play sofa also comes in darker corduroy such as charcoal gray or mustard.
