# A cream corduroy kids floor sofa from above, and the mistakes it avoids

*A child asleep on the arm. The photograph is quiet. It also answers most of what parents ask before they order.*

> **The quick answer:** Three mistakes to avoid with a kids floor sofa: choosing a size before comparing it with the room, expecting the arms to be sewn on, and letting the bolsters go soft. A set is four separate pieces: one seat, one backrest and two armrests. Keep the bolster arms firm enough to hold their round shape, and put a thick rug underneath.

## Pinned by Hana: the sofa, top down

Five points seen from above, from the bolster under her head to the open moon book.

1. **Bolster as headrest**: The bolster arm is the natural pillow at floor level, so keep it firm but not hard.
2. **Seat slab**: From above you can see the seat slab's straight box edges.
3. **Bunny plush**: A soft toy propped on the sofa corner repeats the oatmeal tone.
4. **Wooden blocks**: Scattered blocks tell an end-of-play story.
5. **Moon picture book**: The open book adds a small color note on the pale carpet.

## The kids floor sofa anatomy, read from the ceiling

Seen from above, a [kids floor sofa](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/kids-floor-sofas/) is a plan drawing. A seat slab with straight box edges. A backrest along one side. A round [bolster](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#bolster) arm at the end. No legs, no frame. It sits straight on a looped oatmeal carpet.

The cloth is cream [corduroy](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/), unpiped, so the edges are drawn by the ribs alone. Cream on oatmeal is a low contrast. The room stays hushed, which suits the hour.

A toddler in a striped knit sweater has fallen asleep with her head on the bolster. That is the arm's second job. At floor level, the bolster is the pillow.

Everything else is the end of play. A bunny plush propped on the corner, in the same oatmeal tone. Wooden blocks scattered to one side. Stacking rings. An open picture book with a moon, the only small note of color on the pale carpet. Nothing was arranged for the camera. It was simply left there.

You can build this corner in any living room. Height is a feeling, and here it is low and calm.

## Five mistakes this photograph quietly avoids

- ✗ Soft bolsters. The arm becomes the headrest at floor level. If it slumps, it stops holding a head. Order it firm enough to keep its round shape.
- ✗ No rug underneath. The sofa has no legs or frame and sits straight on the floor. A thick rug is part of the design.
- ✗ Sizing by wish instead of by room. Compare the standard footprint with the free floor before asking for a custom size.
- ✗ Assuming one piece. Seat, backrest and armrests arrive separately unless you ask for the arms to be fixed.
- ✗ Choosing color from a screen. Ask for the color number of the photo you like. The cream in the stack photos is number 19.

## A small room, a yellow couch, a ship date

A parent in the US wanted the kids floor couch in yellow or a pastel. The room was small, so they asked for a small size: about 29 1/2 x 29 1/2 in (75 x 75 cm) and 17 3/8 in (44 cm) tall.

The workshop pointed them to the standard size first, and also showed a longer version. They compared both with the room and chose the standard. The order was placed during the holiday sale and set to ship from December 27, so someone would be home to bring it in.

Measure the room. Then the sofa. Then the calendar.

## What parents ask before ordering

**A common question:** Does the floor cushion set arrive as one piece, or as separate cushions?

**The workshop's answer:** Separate pieces: one seat cushion, one backrest and two armrest cushions, all made to your size. The armrests are not sewn on, though they can be fixed if you ask. A cushion-only listing includes just the seat. For an L-shaped floor couch, order two sets and arrange them side by side.

**A common question:** What color number is the off-white cushion in the stacked photos?

**The workshop's answer:** Color numbers come from each listing's chart. The off-white cream in the stack photos is number 19, so choosing 19 gets the same color, and there is a whiter option too. The green tufted cushion is color 5, and the workshop names others on request, such as mint, smoke or beige.

**A common question:** My size is not in the menu. How do I order an exact custom size?

**The workshop's answer:** Pick the nearest size option, for example 20 x 52 for a 21 x 52 1/4 in mat, or 20 x 56 for 20 x 55 in, and send a message with the exact size. It will be made to your measurements. For larger or unusual sizes the workshop sends a custom order link.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why does a floor sofa need a rug underneath?

With no legs or frame, the sofa sits straight on the floor. A thick rug adds a soft layer under the seat slab and around it, so a child who slides off lands on something kind, especially over hardwood or tile.

### Can the bolster arms be attached permanently?

They come separate, so they can be moved, turned into headrests or set aside when a child wants the whole seat. If you would rather have them fixed to the seat, say so when ordering and they can be attached.

### What if my room is too small for the standard kids sofa?

Measure the free floor first and compare it with the standard footprint. The workshop can also show longer or custom versions. One parent with a small room asked for about 29 1/2 x 29 1/2 in (75 x 75 cm) and, after seeing both, kept the standard size.
