# A rust corduroy rainbow arch, a toddler, and one parent's careful questions

*A letter about one real project, from the first question to the day it was ordered. The photograph comes after.*

> **The quick answer:** Before ordering a corduroy kids floor sofa, ask four things: the fiber content, which way the ribs run on the side band, what is in the foam, and when it will arrive. In one real order, a 47 1/4 x 47 1/4 in (120 x 120 cm) corner floor sofa came in polyester corduroy, with side ribs running horizontally to avoid joins.

## A letter about one careful order

I want to tell you about a list.

A parent was planning a play corner and considering a corner floor sofa, 47 1/4 x 47 1/4 in (120 x 120 cm), in anthracite corduroy. The questions came in a calm order.

First, the fabric. Polyester corduroy, the workshop said, from a mill certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (03.T.3239).

Second, the side band. The ribs there run horizontally, to avoid joins. Which way they can run depends on the width of the fabric roll.

Third, the foam. No added flame retardants.

Fourth, timing. The family had trips planned. For that order, the workshop promised delivery within two weeks, before they left.

One more request: to see the color in real homes. The workshop sent review photos in the same anthracite. Then the order came in.

Nothing dramatic. That is the point. Good questions, answered plainly, and a sofa that arrived when it was needed.

## Pinned by Hana: the corduroy arch from above

Five pins, from the rust crown of the arch to the small stars printed on the rug.

1. **Rust arch crown**: From above, the ribs run across the arch like a ridged roof.
2. **Espresso arch**: The middle arch fills the rust curve with a thin shadow gap.
3. **Cream dome**: The cream core stays bright even in the shade of the arches.
4. **Curious toddler**: The arch top is roughly at the child's shoulder.
5. **Rug star print**: Small printed stars echo the playful shape without adding color.

## The photograph, read slowly

The camera looks down at an angle. That choice answers what most product shots leave open: how deep each piece is.

The outer arch is rust corduroy, box-edged, no piping. From above, the ribs run across the crown like a ridged roof. Small hands find them first.

Inside it, an espresso arch fills the curve, with a thin line of shadow between the two. Inside that, a cream dome. It stays bright even in the shade of the arches, so the set never reads as one heavy brown shape.

The toddler stands on the left third, in sage. The top of the arch is roughly at their shoulder. Height is a feeling, and at shoulder height this one says lean, climb, peek over.

The rug is cream with small printed stars, playful without adding color. Oak floor, a white baseboard, the hem of a linen curtain. Nothing else. The arch has room.

For sizing, see [kids floor sofa sizes by age](https://cushionguide.com/guides/kids-floor-sofa-size-by-age/). More pieces live in the [kids floor sofa atlas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/kids-floor-sofas/), more ribs in the [corduroy library](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/), and certification wording in [OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for cushions](https://cushionguide.com/guides/oeko-tex-standard-100-cushions/).

What does your child do first with a new cushion?

A rib is for small hands.
A dome is for sitting.
The empty floor is for everything else.

## Five things to ask before ordering a kids floor sofa

1. Fiber content, and which mills the fabric comes from.
2. Which way the ribs run on the side band, and why.
3. What is in the foam.
4. Whether delivery fits your own calendar.
5. Real-home photos in the exact color you want.

## Buyer questions: very large sizes, low seats and a U-shaped room

**A common question:** Can you quote very large custom cushions, like four at 96 x 40 x 12 in?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Four cushions at 96 x 40 x 12 in (244 x 102 x 30 cm) were quoted as one set. When two of them were swapped for 96 x 28 x 12 in (244 x 71 x 30 cm) in linen color 11, the requote came in lower.

**A common question:** How tall is the seat cushion? I need my legs to fit under a low table.

**The workshop's answer:** The velvet floor-seating seat is about 6 in (15 cm) tall. It can be made lower, at 3-4 in (7.5-10 cm), which also lowers the price. One buyer chose a 3 in seat at 48 x 22 in (122 x 56 cm), with a 4 in (10 cm) backrest and armrests.

**A common question:** Can you make a large U-shaped floor sofa, and how should I describe the layout?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Draw it on paper and label each seat by module: A is 35 3/8 x 35 3/8 in (90 x 90 cm) and every corner must be an A; B is 47 1/4 x 35 3/8 in (120 x 90 cm); C is 23 5/8 x 35 3/8 in (60 x 90 cm). For a 180 x 180 in (457 x 457 cm) room, a U used two corners with B modules between them. A discontinued model can still be made to order at a higher price, and the quote gives the making time.

> **Tailor's margin:** Ask for real-home photos in the exact color. One parent saw anthracite corduroy in other families' rooms before ordering a 47 x 47 in corner sofa.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why do corduroy ribs run horizontally on a side band?

Because of the roll. A side band is long and narrow, and running the ribs horizontally lets it be cut without joins. Which direction is possible depends on the width of the fabric roll.

### Can I see a corduroy color in a real home before ordering?

Ask for it. In one order the workshop shared real-home review photos in the exact anthracite corduroy the parent was considering, which shows the color in ordinary light rather than in a studio.

### How tall should a kids floor sofa arch be?

In this photo the top of the rust arch sits at roughly a toddler's shoulder, low enough to lean on and climb over. Compare any piece against your child standing beside it, and check the sizes-by-age notes.
