# A cream velvet modular floor sofa with raspberry ends, read by its edges

*A Japandi room with almost nothing in it, and one floor sofa doing all the talking. I read it the way I read any low seat: edge first, then height, then color.*

> **The quick answer:** A modular floor sofa reads calmest with a box edge and no piping, because the seam between the cream seat and the raspberry end panels already draws the line. Each module is a boxed block with its own backrest, a bolster finishes the run, and the pieces can sit straight along a wall, turn an L, or lie flat as a bed.

## Pinned by Hana: five quiet things in a Japandi room

Five pins, from the low oak bench standing in for a coffee table to the raspberry caps on the bolster.

1. **Low oak bench**: A bench at seat height replaces a coffee table beside floor seating.
2. **Single stem vase**: One stem is all the styling this restrained room needs.
3. **Raspberry-capped bolster**: The bright caps are the only color in the frame.
4. **Raspberry backrest sides**: Color on the sides frames each backrest like a panel.
5. **Wide oak floor**: Warm oak under a cream seat keeps the room from feeling cold.

## Why the edge is boxed and the piping left off

The frame holds very little. A limewashed wall. Wide oak boards. A low oak bench with one stem in a cream bud vase. Then the sofa.

It is a [modular floor sofa](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) in cream velvet, with the backrest sides and the bolster caps in raspberry. Every module is a box: flat top, straight walls, square corners. That is the right edge for floor seating. A knife edge domes in the middle and rolls away from the wall. A box edge stands up like a small piece of architecture.

There is no piping. The color change already draws the line where top meets side, and a welt would draw it twice. When two fabrics meet at a corner, let the seam be the line. The trade-offs are laid out in [box edge versus knife edge](https://cushionguide.com/guides/box-edge-vs-knife-edge-cushion/).

## Raspberry on the sides, cream where you sit

The seat and the backrest faces are cream. That is where hands, knees and coffee land. The raspberry stays on the ends, framing each backrest like a panel, and on the round caps of the bolster. The loudest color goes where the wear is lowest.

Cream [velvet](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/velvet/) takes soft daylight well. It shows a faint sheen on top and a shade deeper on the sides, so even the pale part reveals its edges.

The bench is low, close to the sofa's seat height of about 13.5-14.5 in. It replaces a coffee table, which would sit too high beside floor seating. Height is a feeling, and everything in this room agrees on it. How high is the table beside your floor seat?

One stem.
One bench.
One color, kept to the edges.

## The buyers who asked the workshop to wait

Several buyers who were moving wrote to the workshop during a sale. They wanted the sofa at the new home, not on the doorstep of the old one. One needed it to arrive no earlier than the 19th. Express could take up to 5 business days, so the workshop shipped on the 14th. Others sent new addresses or the dates they would be back from travel, and each dispatch moved to fit.

The method is short. Pick the day you will be home. Count the carrier's business days backward. Ship on that day, not before. If the layout is still undecided, [modular floor sofa layouts](https://cushionguide.com/guides/modular-floor-sofa-layouts/) is worth reading while you wait.

## Buyer questions: beds, loose bars and a missing small box

**A common question:** Can the modular floor sofa turn into a bed, and can I set it up as an L?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes to both. The floor sofa converts into a bed, and there are corner versions that turn a straight run into an L shape.

**A common question:** The metal bars between my sofa pieces pull apart whenever I move the couch. Should I glue them?

**The workshop's answer:** No glue. The bars are designed to come apart easily, because a very tight fit could jam after long use. If they keep separating during normal sitting, send a photo or short video and the workshop sends replacement bars.

**A common question:** Tracking says the metal holders were delivered, but I can't find them anywhere. What now?

**The workshop's answer:** They travel in a small box that is easy to miss, so check the front door, the backyard, the entrance and with building staff. If they are truly lost, send the workshop the tracking page. Ask it to confirm in writing what it will send, and who pays the shipping.

> On a two-color floor sofa, skip the piping: the seam where the cream top meets the raspberry side is already the line.

> **Tailor's margin:** On a floor sofa, put the brightest fabric on the ends and bolster caps, where hands rarely rest, and keep the seat in the calm color.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why does a floor sofa module need a box edge rather than a knife edge?

A box edge has straight side walls, so each module stands square against the wall and against its neighbor. A knife edge thins to a single seam at the rim, which lets the seat dome and roll. On low seating in plain view, the boxed block looks and sits steadier.

### What can stand in for a coffee table beside floor seating?

A low bench close to seat height, as in this room. A standard coffee table sits well above a floor seat, so cups end up near shoulder level. A low oak bench keeps everything within easy reach and repeats the sofa's long, low line.

### Where should the accent color go on a two-fabric floor sofa?

On the ends, the backrest sides and the bolster caps. Those parts frame the shape and see little wear. Keep the seat and backrest faces in the calmer color, where daily sitting, hands and spills land.
