# Pink wide-wale corduroy up close: a corner floor cushion at a child's eye level

*Harlan answers three buyer questions first, then kneels behind a plush bunny to read what corduroy looks like at ten inches, and what is left of it from the doorway.*

> **The quick answer:** Choose a corner floor cushion for a child's nook in two passes: pick the shape and color family from across the room, then the exact shade and wale up close under warm evening light. Wide-wale corduroy feels plush and looks soft even in photos, and 5-6 in (13-15 cm) of thickness beats the standard 4 in for long stories.

## Buyer questions: other fabrics, missing shades and custom widths

**A common question:** Can the teddy floor sofa come in velvet, linen or a print instead of corduroy?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. There is a velvet color chart, two linen lines and printed velvets, but no stripes for that piece. The teddy shape cannot be tufted.

**A common question:** I don't see a burgundy or a strong pink in corduroy. Can you make one?

**The workshop's answer:** Not every shade exists in corduroy. For maroon or a particular pink, the workshop offers velvet or linen instead and sends the velvet color chart; velvet no. 15 was suggested for one pink. Some colors, apple green among them, weren't available at all.

**A common question:** Could the modular floor sofa be made 98 in (249 cm) wide, or 89 in (226 cm)?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The workshop quoted both widths. A custom size adds processing time before the sofa ships, and the custom price is agreed as an offer before the order is placed, so get the timing written into it too.

## Down at the bunny's height

Most people photograph a cushion from where they stand. This one was taken from where a child sits, behind a plush bunny, with the corduroy filling the bottom of the frame. It is the close-up, and it tells you things the doorway never will.

The wale is wide. On a [corner floor cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/corner-floor-cushions/) that small hands will run along, wide ribs feel plush and look soft even in a flat photograph. The pile holds a gentle sheen wherever the light lands, so the dusty pink goes a shade lighter along the tops of the ribs. Velvet remembers the hand that brushed it, and [corduroy](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/) does too, a little more quietly.

Behind the bunny, the flower pillow's pale center is a separate piece of fabric. It is a small detail, but it is the one that makes the flower read as a flower from across the room. The cloud pillow repeats the same pink, and the canopy's fairy lights blur into warm dots behind everything, which gives a daytime picture its depth.

## Pinned by Harlan inside the pink nook

Four pins: the wide-wale ribs, the plush bunny seen from behind, the flower pillow's pale center and the canopy's fairy lights.

1. **Wide-wale ribs**: Wide wales feel plush underfoot and look soft even in a flat photo.
2. **Plush bunny from behind**: Shooting past the toy puts the viewer at a child's eye level inside the nook.
3. **Flower pillow center**: The pale center disc is a separate fabric piece, a small detail that makes the shape read.
4. **Canopy fairy lights**: Warm bulbs behind the pillows add depth even in a daytime shot.

## What survives the walk back to the doorway

Step back ten feet and most of this disappears. The ribs become a color. The sheen becomes a softness. What stays is shape: the quarter-round of the cushion, the petals of the flower pillow and the lit canopy above.

So choose in two passes. From the doorway, pick the shape and the color family. Up close, under the warm light you will use every evening, pick the exact shade and the wale. A pink that looks right at noon can lean toward peach under warm bulbs, which is why the [screen versus daylight guide](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-color-screen-vs-daylight/) asks you to judge a swatch in your own room.

What light will your nook have at bedtime, my friend?

## Two little readers, 46-inch sides and one more inch

A parent in the US wrote to the workshop about a reading nook for two little girls. They wanted a corner floor cushion with 46 in (117 cm) sides and more thickness than the standard 4 in (10 cm). The workshop quoted it at 6 in (15 cm) and at 5 in (13 cm), and sent photos of three colors: cream, beige and smoke.

They chose smoke at 5 in. I like that they asked for photos rather than trusting a color name. Names are ten-foot words; photos are close-up ones.

For a corner nook shared by two, give the length of each side and ask for 5-6 in (13-15 cm) of thickness. That extra inch is what keeps a floor cushion comfortable through a long story. The [floor cushion thickness guide](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-cushion-thickness-guide/) sets out the range.

> **Tailor's margin:** Judge a corduroy swatch twice: from the doorway for shape and color family, then up close under warm evening bulbs for shade and wale.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Is wide-wale corduroy soft enough for a kids' floor cushion?

Wide wales feel plush under hands and knees and look soft even in photographs, which is why they suit a floor cushion children sit and lie on. A narrower wale reads smoother and a little flatter from across the room.

### How thick should a corner floor cushion be for a reading nook?

The standard is 4 in (10 cm). For a nook where children sit through long stories, 5-6 in (13-15 cm) is more comfortable; one parent chose 5 in for a cushion with 46 in (117 cm) sides.

### Why does a pink cushion look different in the evening?

Warm bulbs push pink toward peach, and a pile fabric like corduroy changes shade as light catches the tops of the ribs. Look at a swatch up close under your evening light before deciding on the exact shade.

### What should I send when ordering a corner floor cushion?

The length of each side along the walls, the thickness you want and the color. Asking for photos of two or three close shades makes the color choice easier than going by a name alone.
