# Two navy palm jacquard throw pillows, one white bench, and a buyer's four-cover lesson

*Élodie reads a lime-washed poolside bench where two pillows do the work of ten, then retells a covers-only order that turned out to need twice the pieces.*

> **The quick answer:** Two large custom throw pillows in one bold print look calmer on a built-in bench than a row of small mixed ones. Set them side by side so each palm leaf reads whole, and repeat the navy somewhere in the view. When ordering covers only, list every piece with its size: two chairs can mean four cushions.

![Two navy and cream palm-leaf jacquard pillows on a white built-in bench by an infinity pool with a sea view](https://cushionguide.com/media/throw-pillows/navy-palm-jacquard-throw-pillows-poolside-bench-1600.webp "Two large navy leaf pillows are all this lime-washed poolside bench needs.")

## Pinned by Élodie: two pillows, one horizon

Follow the pins from the left pillow out to the pool: the navy leaves, the plain linen and the brass all answer the water behind them.

1. **Left pillow**: Placed side by side, not overlapping, so each large leaf can be seen whole.
2. **Right pillow**: The woven jacquard gives the navy leaves a slightly raised texture.
3. **Linen throw**: Natural linen adds a soft, plain texture next to the bold pattern.
4. **Brass tray**: A brass tray with olive sprigs brings a warm metallic note.
5. **Infinity pool**: The pool and sea repeat the navy of the pillows.

## Why two pillows and not five

Two pillows. That is the whole arrangement, my friends, and it is enough.

They stand side by side on the lime-washed bench, not overlapping, so each palm leaf can be read from stem to tip. Overlap them and the print collapses into a navy blur; a large motif needs its full face.

The cloth is a **jacquard**, woven rather than printed, so the leaves sit a hair above the cream ground. In the late gold light that low relief throws tiny shadows, and the pattern looks carved rather than stamped. More woven patterns live on the [jacquard and damask shelf](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/jacquard-and-damask/).

Now look past the pillows. The pool and the sea beyond carry the same ink navy, so the pillows belong to the view instead of competing with it. The cream ground matches the bench. Let one color speak and the others listen.

The props keep to the edges: an oatmeal linen throw for plain texture beside the bold print, a brass tray with an olive sprig for one warm metallic note, rosemary in terracotta. Not one of them carries a pattern.

One caution. Jacquard is an indoor weave. If these pillows will sit out through rain and full sun, bring them in at dusk, or choose an outdoor cloth for [throw pillows](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/throw-pillows/) that live on the terrace. Which pillow on your own bench is doing the talking right now?

## Swatch strip: the poolside palette

- Ink navy — #1F2A44 — The palm leaves, the deep water and the sea beyond
- Lime-wash cream — #EEE7D8 — Pillow ground and bench, so the pillows sink into the wall
- Oatmeal linen — #CDBFA6 — The throw: plain texture beside the bold print
- Brushed brass — #B08D4A — The tray, the only warm metal in the frame
- Rosemary green — #6F7F5E — Herbs in a pot, a quiet living note
- Terracotta — #B8653F — The pot, echoing the late-day light

## The question, the choices, the result: a covers-only order

**The question.** A buyer got in touch wanting zippered covers only, no foam, in a zebra or cow print, for two indoor chairs.

**The choices.** The workshop sent its animal-print chart, and the buyer chose the P-02 zebra. The first quote was for two covers. Then the photo arrived, and it showed what the words had not: each chair had a seat cushion and a back cushion. Two chairs, four covers.

**The result.** The quote was corrected to four pieces: two covers at 21⅝ x 29½ in (55 x 75 cm) and two at 21⅝ x 25⅝ in (55 x 65 cm), all 3¾ in (9.5 cm) deep, and the workshop brought the set price down.

The lesson is small, with large consequences. List every piece with its quantity and its size, and send one photo. A zebra print forgives many things; a missing cover is not one of them. The [covers for existing foam Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-covers-for-existing-foam/) lists what to measure.

## On the cutting table: the poolside pair

| | |
|---|---|
| Piece | Two square knife-edge throw pillows |
| Fabric | Navy and cream palm-leaf jacquard, woven not printed |
| Edge | Knife edge, no piping, so the print runs to the seam |
| Arrangement | Side by side, never overlapping |
| Companion | Oatmeal linen throw, unpatterned |
| Palette | Ink navy and lime-wash cream, with one brass note |
| Outdoors | Bring the woven indoor fabric in at dusk |
| Best for | Built-in benches with a strong view behind them |

## Buyer questions: covers without the foam

**A common question:** Can I order just the cover, without the foam insert?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. A covers-only listing makes zippered box covers in any size, from a long 101½ x 24 x 4 in (258 x 61 x 10 cm) cover to a bay-window cover sized for a buyer's own 4 in (10 cm) foam. Buyers have also ordered a second set of bench covers in another color.

**A common question:** I already have one of your sofas. Can I buy extra or replacement covers for it?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Replacement cover sets are made to order and sold through a custom link, for example a full set for a convertible modular couch or an extra cover for a kids' corner sofa.

**A common question:** I asked for foam fill, and you said this pillow can't take foam. What are my options?

**The workshop's answer:** Some cushion styles are not made with foam. For those, the workshop fills them with silicone fiber clusters instead, or cancels the order if you would rather not go ahead.

> **Tailor's margin:** Before ordering covers only, count the pieces in a photo: two chairs with seat and back cushions means four covers, not two.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Should big-print throw pillows on a built-in bench overlap or sit side by side?

With a large print, side by side. Overlapping hides half of each motif, so a big palm leaf turns into an unreadable patch. Two pillows placed edge to edge let each face show its whole pattern and keep the bench looking calm.

### What makes a jacquard pillow different from a printed pillow?

Jacquard weaves the pattern into the cloth with the yarns themselves, so the motif has a slight raised texture. A print sits on the surface of the fabric. In low, raking evening light the woven relief shows as fine shadow around each shape.

### Can woven jacquard throw pillows stay outside by the pool?

Only for the afternoon. Jacquard is an indoor weave, so bring it in at dusk and keep it out of rain. Pillows that stay out through the season belong in an outdoor fabric made to handle sun and water.
