## A letter about the bench at the foot of the bed

My friends,

Most of us see an end-of-bed bench from above. We walk past it, drop a sweater on it, sit on it to tie our shoes. So its outline matters more than its front, and that is why this mustard corduroy cushion wears navy piping.

The navy welt draws the shape against a charcoal flatweave rug and oatmeal linen bedding, two soft grays that would otherwise swallow the edge. The eye sits down first, and here it finds a clean rectangle to sit on.

## Three cushions for a nook that feeds a family

A family in the US needed three cushions for a U-shaped breakfast nook, two of them with cutouts where a window sill overhung the seats. One side of the U ran 60 in (152 cm). Their worry was food stains.

The workshop was honest about the fabric they loved. The navy ticking stripe, code N29, is 100% cotton and stains more easily, though everything washes at 86°F (30°C). The firm 32-density foam makes 2.5 in (6.4 cm) comfortable, so the seats could stay slim. It also warned that the closest solid navy piping might not exactly match the navy in the stripe.

Then the cutting table added up the numbers and caught a 2 1/4 in (5.7 cm) mismatch in the third piece. The family re-measured before production. ## Buyer questions: odd shapes, photo codes and missing sizes

**A common question:** My window seat is narrower at the back and wider at the front. How do I order it?

**The workshop's answer:** That shape is a trapezoid, and it is ordered through the separate trapezoid, or custom-shape, listing. Pick the size range by your longest edge and your deepest depth. **The workshop's answer:** The workshop names the exact codes for any photo. The mustard cushion, for example, is P-60 with P-61 piping, and the light and dark blue pair is L42 with L-43. If a photo uses codes that have since been renumbered, write 'same as the first picture' and it will be matched. Photo colors can differ from swatches because of lighting.

**A common question:** The size I need isn't in the drop-down menu. Can you still make it?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, every cushion can be made to your measurements. Send the length, width and thickness, or a drawing for an odd shape, and the workshop adds your size to the listing or sends a custom order link. Sometimes you order the nearest size and note the real one: a 20 x 20 in option was made as 21 x 21 x 3 in.

### Why pick contrast piping for a bedroom bench cushion?

### Will solid navy piping match a navy stripe exactly?

Not always. The closest solid navy can differ slightly from the navy woven into a stripe, and the workshop says so before cutting. Compare the two swatches side by side in daylight before you commit.
