# A mushroom faux-suede daybed cushion, read by the hour

*One cushion, one plaster wall, three kinds of light. The color moves more than the room does. Watch it before you choose it.*

> **The quick answer:** A mushroom faux-suede daybed cushion looks warm and pale in low sun, flatter and cooler in plain midday light, and a step deeper under an evening lamp. Judge it in daylight photos of the real fabric, not on a phone screen alone. The brushed face stays matte; a smooth leather-look cover has a slight shine that reads lighter in strong light.

## What the plaster wall is doing

The first thing in this photograph is not the cushion. It is the light. Late sun comes in low from the right and rakes across the plaster. Everything it touches turns a shade warmer.

The daybed cushion sits in that light as a long, low block. Box edge, self piping, so the outline is drawn by shadow instead of a second color. The seat stops short of the drawer pull on the oak base. Leave a hand's width of floor, and a finger's width of wood.

Mushroom sits one step darker than the pale oak. That step is the design. Two steps and the cushion becomes a stripe across the room. No step and it disappears.

The face is brushed faux suede from the [faux-leather family](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/faux-leather/). It is matte, so the sun does not bounce off it. A smooth leather-look cloth would carry a slight shine here, and shine reads lighter in strong light, deeper in soft light.

The props keep the same low sheen. Cream knit pillows at the ends. Kilim pillows in rust and charcoal in the middle, the only pattern in the frame. A caramel throw carries the color down to the terracotta pot. The olive tree gives height, the linen-shade lamp covers the evening hour, jute warms the floor. Nothing shines.

The long bolster against the wall works as a sofa back, so the daybed reads as a couch by day. More in [daybed cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/daybed-cushions/) and the [daybed back cushions Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/daybed-back-cushions-sofa-look/).

What hour do you sit here most? Choose the color for that hour.

Morning asks for gray.
Evening asks for amber.
Mushroom answers both, a little.

## The palette, hour by hour

- Warm plaster — #d5ccb9 — The wall. Cream in low sun, nearly gray on an overcast morning.
- Mushroom taupe — #b7a58d — The seat. Warm at the end of the day, flat at noon, deeper under the lamp.
- Caramel — #9a7854 — The throw and the shaded side of the oak. It ties the seat to the pot.
- Tobacco — #8a6e4f — Jute and oak grain. The quiet middle of the room.
- Walnut shadow — #5a3e24 — Kilim ground and the drawer gap. It keeps a pale palette from floating.

## Pinned on the photograph

Five places where the light meets the cloth.

1. **Suede-finish bolster**: The long bolster sits against the wall and holds the pillows up like a sofa back.
2. **Brushed seat top**: A matte, nubuck-like face shows soft hand marks, which gives it a lived-in look.
3. **Drawer in oak base**: The drawer sits below the cushion line, so the seat must stop short of the pull.
4. **Caramel throw**: A fringed throw in a darker tan links the cushion to the terracotta pot.
5. **Kilim pillows**: Woven-pattern pillows are the only print, in colors pulled from the pot and throw.

## A 70 in daybed with a date to meet

A buyer messaged the workshop needing a daybed cushion before a holiday weekend: 22 × 70 × 4 in (56 × 178 × 10 cm). The estimated delivery window opened on the very day it was needed. Too close.

The workshop offered to put it first in line at the start of the week, and laid out the rest plainly. Shipping would take 2 to 4 business days after dispatch. An in-stock velvet could go out at once; other fabrics needed about one more day. The dates were an estimate, not a promise. The buyer ordered.

A deadline leaves no time to wait on swatches. Ask for daylight close-ups instead.

## Buyer questions: sets, trundles and throw-over covers

**A common question:** My daybed came without back cushions or bolsters. If I order the set, are those included?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The full set is the seat cover plus backrests and small bolster armrests, delivered filled. Send the seat cover size, for example 78¾ × 31½ × 11¾ in (200 × 80 × 30 cm), and the backrests and armrests are made in proportion.

**A common question:** Our trundle daybed has two mattresses. Can one cover do both?

**The workshop's answer:** One cover fits one mattress, made to that mattress, for example 35½ × 74¾ × 7 in (90 × 190 × 18 cm). A cover for the second mattress is a separate item, charged on its own.

**A common question:** Can you make a skirted throw-over daybed cover with no zipper, easy to take off every day?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The workshop has made open-bottom covers with a skirt that hangs over the front and tucks between mattress and base, ordered through the daybed cover listing, one of them for a 78¾ × 35½ × 7 in (200 × 90 × 18 cm) daybed.

> **Tailor's margin:** If the daybed is used mostly in the evening, judge the fabric photo under a lamp, not by a sunny window: mushroom reads a step deeper at night.

## Questions buyers ask next

### How tall are the backrests in a daybed cushion set?

About 19¾ in (50 cm) high, measured from the top of the seat cushion, and the same length as the seat. Standard back pillows elsewhere are about 16 in (40 cm) tall.

### Can the backrests be as firm as the daybed seat?

Yes. Backrests are softer than seats by default, but one can be made equally firm on request. The seat itself sits at about 6 to 7 on a 1 to 10 firmness scale.

### Does brushed faux suede show marks?

Soft hand marks show where someone sat or brushed across it, which reads as lived-in rather than worn. Smooth leather-look fabric shows a slight shine instead.
