# An ivory linen-look modular floor sofa, and the room before and after it

*A low sofa built from cushions, in the palest color the room allows. What changes when the seat stops being the loudest thing in the room.*

> **The quick answer:** An ivory modular floor sofa suits a sunny, pale room because it blends into the walls and lets one textile or rug carry the color. The pieces are square-edged and firmly filled: stacked base layers, loose back cushions and block arms. Ask for removable covers if the sofa will see daily use.

## Pinned by Hana

Five pins: three on the sofa, two on the things that give the room its color.

1. **Ivory arm block**: Squared arm blocks give the soft sofa a crisp edge.
2. **Loose back cushions**: Plump back cushions soften the long, low line.
3. **Stacked base layers**: The visible seam between layers adds a subtle horizontal line.
4. **Kilim panel**: The textile's rust tones are the main color against all-white seating.
5. **Olive tree**: Gray-green leaves echo the linen-look texture.

## The room without it, then with it

Picture the room without the sofa. Limewashed walls, an arched doorway, a stone console, a framed kilim. It is already quiet. It has one color, the rust in the kilim, and a great deal of pale.

Now put a dark sofa in it. The sofa becomes the subject. Every eye goes there first, and the kilim loses its job.

This one is ivory. It almost disappears into the wall, and the room reads as one soft volume. The kilim keeps its job. So do the terracotta urns.

The sofa is built from cushions. Stacked base layers, with a fine seam between them that draws a quiet horizontal line along the length. Loose back cushions, plump, to soften the long low shape. Square block arms at each end, to give something soft a crisp edge.

Light from the arched doorway falls across the backs and shows the weave. A [linen-look](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#linen-look) fabric needs that side light. Under flat overhead light, ivory goes flat too.

The olive tree is there for its leaves. Gray-green, the same dry tone as the woven texture.

Height is a feeling. A floor sofa sits low, so the wall above it looks taller and the room looks larger. Keep some floor visible around it.

[Modular floor sofas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) are laid out straight, as an L, or around a corner; the [layouts Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/modular-floor-sofa-layouts/) draws them. The [linen-look weaves](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/linen-look-fabrics/) are in the Swatch Library.

What is the one color your room already has?

One pale piece.
One colored textile.
The room decides the rest.

## The same sofa in two colors

The gallery holds the slate blue version of this sofa. Set side by side, the two do different work.

| | Slate blue | Ivory |
|---|---|---|
| What the eye finds first | The sofa | The framed kilim |
| Where the color lives | In the seat | In the textile and the terracotta |
| Suits | A room that needs one anchor | A sunny room with pale walls |
| Daily life | Forgives small marks | Removable covers worth asking for |

## A sofa that waited for a move

A couple wanted to lock in the price on an open-corner modular floor sofa before moving to [Hawaii](https://cushionguide.com/places/hawaii-cushions/). The move-in date was weeks away.

The workshop told them to write the delivery date they wanted in the personalization box, and held the order. Later they changed the color, from dark brown to green, in corduroy.

When the time came to ship, the first set had been stored for a long time. Compressed foam that sits too long can lose its shape. So the workshop made a fresh set and sent that instead. The buyers wrote back about the clear, steady communication.

A delayed delivery is fine. A cushion that waits compressed is not.

## Asked before ordering

**A common question:** Can the pillows have rounded edges and extra stuffing, like the designer sofa this style comes from?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop is not the original designer and makes square-edged pieces only, not rounded ones. Every piece is filled firmly.

**A common question:** Do you have teddy, sherpa or bouclé fabric?

**The workshop's answer:** Teddy fabric is available, with its own color chart. The workshop considers it very close to bouclé.

**A common question:** Can the floor sofa be made narrower or wider to fit my room?

**The workshop's answer:** Narrower, yes: for example 65 in (165 cm) instead of the standard 78.5 in (199 cm). A wider custom size was also offered on one order, quoted at about 10 days of production.

> **Tailor's margin:** A floor sofa stored compressed too long can lose its shape. If delivery waits for a move, ask for the cushions to be made close to the ship date.

## The build

| | |
|---|---|
| Piece | Modular floor sofa built from cushions |
| Parts | Stacked base layers, three loose back cushions, two block arms |
| Fabric | Ivory linen-look weave |
| Edge | Boxed and square; rounded edges are not made |
| Piping | None |
| Fill | Firm, so each piece keeps a crisp line |
| Width | Standard 78.5 in (199 cm); narrower, such as 65 in (165 cm), on request |
| Best for | A sunny, pale room where one textile carries the color |

## Questions buyers ask next

### Does an ivory floor sofa show dirt?

Pale fabric shows more than dark, which is why removable covers are worth asking for on a sofa that sees daily use. In a sunny room the payoff is the look: ivory blends into pale walls and leaves the color to a rug or textile.

### What is a modular floor sofa made of?

Cushions. This one has stacked base layers, loose back cushions and square block arms, all square-edged and firmly filled. The pieces sit directly on the floor, so the whole sofa is low and can be rearranged.

### Can I change the color of my floor sofa after ordering?

Ask before production starts. In one real order, a couple switched from dark brown to green corduroy while their order was held for a move, and the workshop made the sofa in the new color.
