# Forest green and burnt orange: a bench cushion for a narrow spot

*The eye sits down first. Here it sits on a deep green corner traced in rust, the kind of cushion a narrow ledge needs.*

> **The quick answer:** A narrow bench or window ledge feels more generous when its cushion has a clear outline, such as forest green edged in burnt orange piping. The contrast cord lets the eye read the full length and depth at once. A tall side wall suits deep ledges and backless benches, near-white cream is the other route, and any piping join belongs at the back.

## One corner, four colors

- Forest green — #3E4634 — The body: deep and smoky, with a slub.
- Burnt orange — #A9542B — The cord: borrowed from walnut and clay.
- Studio gray — #C5C4C0 — The backdrop: neutral, so the pair reads true.
- Cream 19 — #EDE7DA — The other road: nearest to white.

## A narrow seat, drawn in rust

Color first, my friends, then construction. Forest green, deep and a little smoky, in a slub weave that reads like vintage upholstery linen. Around both seams runs a burnt orange cord. The camera is close and the backdrop a soft studio gray, so there is nothing to see but color and construction.

On a narrow window ledge or a backless bench, that cord is the whole trick. Contrast piping draws the outline of the cushion, top and bottom, so the eye reads its full length and depth at a glance. The seat looks deliberate, and deliberate looks generous. The side wall helps too: it is tall compared with the top, the kind of gusset that suits a deep ledge or a bench with no back, where the cushion is seen from the side as much as from above.

Burnt orange is not a random choice. It picks up walnut, copper pans, terracotta pots, leather. If your kitchen cabinets are green, pull the cord color from the copper or the clay floor instead of adding another green. What in your room could lend the piping its color?

One honest detail: a small piping join shows on the lower seam. That is normal on long cushions. Turn it to the back or against the wall. The [linen-look fabrics](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/linen-look-fabrics/) and the [piping Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-piping-matching-contrast-none/) go further, and [bench cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/) shows the finished shapes.

## Pinned by Élodie: color and construction

Four places where the color and the seams speak.

1. **Forest green top**: Deep green with a slub weave reads like vintage upholstery linen.
2. **Burnt orange corner**: The rust cord picks up walnut, copper or terracotta nearby.
3. **Tall side wall**: A tall gusset like this suits a deep window ledge or a backless bench.
4. **Piping join**: A small cord join is normal on long cushions; place it at the back or against a wall.

## The whitest cream, and a checkout put right

A buyer in the US wanted a linen bench cushion as close to white as possible, 68 x 21.5 in. The workshop pointed them to color 19, a cream that sits nearest to white and matches the lightest photographs. Near-white is the other road for a narrow spot: instead of drawing an outline, it gives the light back.

The price was agreed in messages. Then the checkout showed a higher figure than the quote. The buyer asked before paying, and the workshop corrected it before the order went through.

> **Tailor's margin:** Ask for a close-up photo of a fabric code next to a sheet of white paper; the paper shows whether a neutral leans warm or gray.

## Colors, sizes and second chances

**A common question:** My size isn't in the dropdown. How can I order it?

**The workshop's answer:** Two ways. Pick the nearest size on the menu and the workshop makes your exact size, as with 20 x 48 in made as 46 x 22 in. Or ask, and your size is added as its own option, as 36 x 72 in was. Extras like handles can be left off.

**A common question:** The swatches are tiny. Can I see bigger photos of the oatmeal, flax and greige linens?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, close-up phone photos of any code are sent on request. In one comparison L-04 and L-30 looked grayer, while L-02 and L-07 were lighter and warmer. The photos aren't professional, so tones shift with the light; some buyers ask for a shot next to white paper.

**A common question:** My cushion arrived the wrong size, or with the colors swapped. Will you fix it?

**The workshop's answer:** Photograph it, with a tape measure along the wrong edge or a close-up of the swapped piping, and send that to the workshop. When the mistake was the workshop's, it has remade cushions before: a 24 x 40 in cushion made instead of 16 x 40 in, say, or the main and piping colors reversed.

> On a narrow window ledge, contrast piping draws the cushion's outline, so the eye reads its full length and depth at a glance.

## Questions buyers ask next

### What piping color goes with a forest green cushion?

Burnt orange or rust, when the room has walnut, copper, terracotta or leather to echo it. With green cabinets, take the cord color from copper pans or a clay floor rather than adding another green.

### Is a visible piping join a flaw?

No. A small join in the cord is normal on long cushions. Place it at the back of the seat or against the wall, and nobody sitting on the cushion will ever see it.

### Dark or near-white for a narrow bench cushion?

Both work, differently. A deep color with contrast piping draws a clear outline; a near-white like cream 19 gives the light back. Choose by the light the spot gets and how hard the seat is used.
