# Two striped sunbed cushions, one pool deck, one rule

*One lounger soft, one graphic, both on the same gray frames. Callum reads a poolside makeover done with a single cushion swap.*

> **The quick answer:** Two sunbed cushions in different stripes look like a set when the stripes run the same direction, the ground color matches and the frames stay the same. Change only the colorway. In this pool pair, a dusty rose awning stripe and a black, gray and white stripe both run lengthways on white, on matching gray aluminum loungers.

![Two sun loungers by a pool: one dusty rose and white awning stripe, one black, gray and white striped cushion](https://cushionguide.com/media/chaise-and-sunbed-cushions/dusty-rose-and-black-stripe-lounger-cushions-pool-pair-1600.webp "A soft pink stripe and a graphic black stripe share one pool edge, tied together by matching gray frames and white walls.")

## Before: two gray frames and a hot deck

Two loungers, one pool, and only one of them needed to change.

Picture the deck before. Charcoal pavers, sandstone coping, a white board-and-batten wall, two gray aluminum frames. Handsome and hard. In sharp daylight it looks like a showroom nobody has sat in.

Now the after. One lounger gets a dusty rose and white awning stripe, easy as a Sunday. The other gets black, gray and white stripes, graphic and cool. Both are [sunbed cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/chaise-and-sunbed-cushions/) with seat and backrest, box edges and self piping. Nothing else on the deck moved.

## Pinned by Callum

Five pins, from the rose stripe to the olive trees that bridge the pink and the gray.

1. **Dusty rose stripe**: A soft awning stripe for the relaxed lounger.
2. **Black stripe seat**: Black, gray and white stripes give the second lounger a graphic contrast.
3. **Matching stripe direction**: Both fabrics run lengthways, which is why the pair reads as a set.
4. **Olive trees in pots**: Silvery olive leaves bridge the pink and the gray.
5. **Gray aluminum frame**: The frame color sits between both moods and matches the pavers.

## After: why two stripes read as one set

Stripes are weather vanes. Point them different ways and the deck looks windblown.

Here both fabrics run lengthways, head to foot. Same direction, same white ground, so the eye accepts two moods as one pair. The gray frames sit between the two palettes and match the pavers, which makes the contrast look intended. More on direction in [which way a stripe should run](https://cushionguide.com/guides/striped-cushion-stripe-direction/).

The olive trees in white planters do quiet work. Their silvery leaves sit halfway between the pink and the gray. The white slatted fence and the white wall keep the backdrop plain enough to carry two patterns without a fight.

The cloth is a [water-repellent membrane](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/water-repellent-membrane/) outdoor fabric. Water-repellent is a promise; waterproof is a contract. Know which one you are buying; the difference is laid out in [water-repellent vs waterproof cushions](https://cushionguide.com/guides/water-repellent-vs-waterproof-cushions/).

For his-and-hers loungers the rule is short. Keep the stripe direction. Keep the frame color. Change the colorway.

## The five-seat bench question

A buyer wrote in about a pool bench that seats five, 118 x 20 in (300 x 50 cm). They wanted a thick waterproof cushion and couldn't decide between one long piece, two pieces split three seats and two, or five separate cushions.

The shop's answer: one long piece works, because the foam is flexible. It can be folded or rolled for storage without creasing or damage. The quote was for 5 in (13 cm) thick, with 3 to 5 days of production and 3 to 5 days of shipping.

So the choice isn't about comfort. It's about storage. Where will that cushion sleep through the off-season, and who carries it there? The reasoning for one, two or five is in [one long bench cushion or two](https://cushionguide.com/guides/long-bench-cushion-one-piece-or-two/).

## Buyer questions: sets, sizes and bundles

**A common question:** Can you make water- and stain-resistant seat cushions for my outdoor sofa set?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. One set covered two seats of 37 x 22 in (94 x 56 cm), one of 43.3 x 22 in (110 x 56 cm) and a 31.5 x 15.7 in (80 x 40 cm) bench. The shop quoted the seat cushions first, then again with backrests for all four, and discounted both.

**A common question:** I need eight cushions in two custom sizes. What's the simplest way to order them?

**The workshop's answer:** Choose the size option the shop names, set the quantity to eight and type the real sizes in personalization. In one order that meant a 19.7 x 19.7 in (50 x 50 cm) option, with four cushions at 18.9 x 22.4 in (48 x 57 cm) and four at 23.2 x 22.4 in (59 x 57 cm), which cost less than ordering separately. A custom listing is also possible.

**A common question:** Can you quote a mixed outdoor set, and what if I only want the covers?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. One 17-piece quote combined seat pads of 18 x 18 x 2.4 in (46 x 46 x 6 cm), bench pads of 21.7 x 18.5 x 2.4 in (55 x 47 x 6 cm), lounger pads of 75.6 x 23.6 x 2 in (192 x 60 x 5 cm) and 74.8 x 19.7 x 2 in (190 x 50 x 5 cm), and eight 19.3 x 16.9 in (49 x 43 cm) cushions. The bundle cost less than the pieces added up, covers only cost less again, and shipping was included.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Do both cushions in a pair of loungers need the same pattern?

No. They only need to share stripe direction, a ground color and the frame. In this photo a dusty rose stripe and a black stripe sit side by side, both lengthways on white, on identical gray aluminum loungers.

### Which way should stripes run on a sunbed cushion?

Lengthways, head to foot, is the calm choice on a long lounger, and it is how both cushions here are cut. Whatever you pick, cut every cushion in a set the same way, or the pair will look mismatched.

### Can a long outdoor bench cushion be folded for storage?

Yes, if the foam is flexible. For a 118 x 20 in (300 x 50 cm) five-seat pool bench, the shop said a one-piece cushion could be folded or rolled for storage without creasing or damage.

### Is a water-repellent lounger cushion the same as a waterproof one?

No. Water-repellent fabric sheds rain for a while; waterproof construction is meant to keep water out entirely. Check which one a listing promises, and cover or bring in either kind through long wet spells.
