# A dove gray star floor cushion, and the welt that goes around it

A star has more corners than any cushion in the shop, and the piping has to walk every one of them.

I have kept this photograph on my bench a few days. A dove gray [star floor cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/star-poufs/) in [corduroy](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/) sits under a white fairy-light canopy in a cream reading corner. The welt is [self piping](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#self-piping), the same gray cord rolled into the seam. You hardly see it as a line. You see it as a shadow that tells you where the top ends and the box side begins.

That was the right call, my friend. Look at what else lives in the corner: pastel bunting overhead, a round rainbow rug on the carpet, a framed elephant and a framed rainbow, and pine ledges full of picture books turned face out. The room already has plenty to say. A white or mustard welt would draw the star like a cookie cutter and hand the eye one more thing to count.

Gray was picked for the same reason. A mid-gray wale is a quiet, forgiving base, and it lets the book covers be the art.

## One ottoman, one backrest and a metal bar

A buyer in the US already had part of a corner floor sofa and wanted to finish it without buying a whole new set. She asked for three things only: the ottoman, 39 x 39 in (99 x 99 cm), a straight I-shaped backrest and a metal bar, so her corner would seat three with something to lean on.

The shop made her a custom listing with just those pieces, in brick corduroy.

A seam is a promise, and that goes for the pieces that come later. When you add to a set, order the same cloth and the same welt, and the new piece joins the line instead of interrupting it.

## Buyer questions: cotton fill, a missing parcel and a late code

**A common question:** Can my floor cushion be filled with organic cotton instead?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Organic cotton filling is available for a small surcharge, and that surcharge can be combined with a sale discount. On a very large piece, cotton fill may not seal well in the vacuum packing the cushions ship in. Flax or linen fiber stuffing is not offered.

**A common question:** The tracking says delivered, but nothing came to my door. What can you do?

**The workshop's answer:** First check the carrier's delivery photo, every door, the mailroom and the neighbors. If it is still missing, the shop opens a case with the carrier and sends a new item once the loss is confirmed. In one such case it also offered half the cost of a remake, or a half refund.

**A common question:** A discount code arrived right after I paid. Can it go on the order I just placed?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Codes sent after a purchase are meant for your next order, and they stay active so you can use them on a second purchase.

### What is self piping on a star floor cushion?

Self piping is a cord covered in the same fabric as the cushion and sewn into the edge seam. On a star it follows every point and valley in one color, so the shape reads by shadow. It is also the easiest welt for the workshop to make.

### When does contrast piping look right on a star pouf?
