# A dark tropical floral window seat cushion in a palm sunroom, and a buyer who wanted one long piece

*A long bench, a strong opinion and three thickness quotes. I retell a real order first, then read the black-ground floral that brings the palms inside.*

> **The quick answer:** A long window seat cushion can be made as one continuous piece; a buyer's 111.5 x 34 in (283 x 86 cm) seat was cut whole at the standard 4 in (10 cm) thickness. Each extra inch of thickness raises the price, so compare 4, 5 and 7 in quotes before deciding, and sketch the final size yourself.

## One hundred eleven and a half inches, and a buyer who said no

Most people who measure 111.5 in (283 cm) of window bench hear the same advice: make it two cushions. The buyer in this story had heard it from more than one maker, and said no. They wanted one continuous seat.

I love a customer who knows what they want, neighbor. A long bench reads calmer as one piece, with no seam line down the middle to catch crumbs and a curious dog's nose. The [one piece or two pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/long-bench-cushion-one-piece-or-two/) lays out both sides fairly. And the photo in this reading is the same kind of long white bench, dressed very differently.

## A 111.5 in tufted cushion: question, choices, result

A buyer in the US asked for a white French tufted cushion, 111.5 x 34 in (283 x 86 cm), in a single piece. The workshop agreed to one piece at the standard 4 in (10 cm) thickness.

Then came the choices. The workshop also quoted 5 in (13 cm) and 7 in (18 cm), and showed plainly how much each extra inch added to the price. The buyer weighed it and kept 4 in, in white velvet, color 11.

The result: the whole seat shipped compressed in a box of about 23.5 x 19.75 x 8 in (60 x 50 x 20 cm). The carrier scanned it as delivered before it was, and the buyer collected it from the carrier's local counter. A 111.5 in cushion, one piece, from a box that size. The [first 72 hours pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/vacuum-packed-cushion-first-72-hours/) covers what happens once it is opened, and [tufted versus plain](https://cushionguide.com/guides/tufted-vs-plain-cushions/) explains why a tufted top has no zipper.

## Pinned by Rosa: palms outside, pink inside

Start at the dark floral on the bench, then follow the blush pillow, the draped throw and the anthurium, the three places where the print's pink repeats.

1. **Dark tropical cushion**: The black ground mirrors the palm silhouettes outside the glass.
2. **Blush pillow**: Pink lifted from the printed flowers, repeated as a solid.
3. **Blush linen throw**: Draped over the front, it breaks a long, busy run of pattern.
4. **Anthurium in vase**: Repeats the print's pink in a sculptural, living form.
5. **Iced coffee**: A dark rattan table echoes the black of the cushion in the foreground.

## Reading the black-ground floral against all that glass

Now the photo. It is golden hour in a sunroom with arched windows and palm trees outside, the air humid enough to feel. The cushion is a long box in a black-ground tropical floral with pink flowers and palm-green leaves, self piped so the edge stays quiet.

Why black? Because the darkest thing in the view is the palm silhouettes, and the print's ground matches them. The garden seems to have walked indoors. With so much glass and pale travertine, a dark cushion also anchors that long white bench so it does not float.

The pinks are lifted from the print's softest flowers. A blush linen pillow repeats them as a solid, an ivory pillow rests the eye, and a blush linen throw draped over the front breaks up a long run of pattern. A pink anthurium in a ribbed cream vase says it once more in living form. The black rattan side table with its iced coffee and folded newspaper picks up the cushion's ground at floor level.

Copy it this way: match your print's background to the darkest thing in your view, and take accents from its lightest flowers. The [sunroom cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/sunroom-cushions/) collection and the [window seat cushion atlas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/window-seat-cushions/) have more rooms like it. If your bench runs this long, would you split it or keep it whole?

## Buyer questions: exact sizes, the foam inside, cleaning tufts

**A common question:** Can you check my measurements and settle the final size for me? And is your mockup drawing exact?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop makes the cushion strictly to the dimensions you give and cannot decide the final size for you. It will turn your numbers into a drawing so you can check the shape, but you confirm the numbers. The surest route is to sketch the final measurements on paper and send a photo of the sketch.

**A common question:** What kind of foam goes inside?

**The workshop's answer:** Bench cushions use 32-density high-density foam with a medium-soft feel. Floor sofas use 28-density high-density foam rated ILD 42. The workshop describes both as durable enough to last many years.

**A common question:** The tufted version has no zipper. How do I keep it clean?

**The workshop's answer:** Tufted cushions have no zipper, so they are cleaned in place with a damp cloth; soft fabric in particular wipes clean easily by hand. If you want a removable cover, choose the non-tufted, foam-filled version, which has a zipper.

> **Tailor's margin:** Match a printed cushion's background to the darkest thing in the view, then take pillow colors from its lightest flowers.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Should a very long window bench get one cushion or two?

Either can work. One piece reads calmer and has no center seam; two pieces are easier to lift and suit benches over radiators. A 111.5 in (283 cm) bench has been made as a single cushion on request.

### How does a one-piece long cushion arrive?

Compressed. The 111.5 x 34 in one-piece cushion shipped in a box of about 23.5 x 19.75 x 8 in (60 x 50 x 20 cm). Give the foam a few days after unpacking to recover its full shape.

### Why choose a dark print for a sunroom window seat?

In a room full of glass and pale stone, a dark ground anchors a long bench visually, and a black ground can echo dark plant silhouettes outside. Pull lighter accent colors from the print for pillows and throws so the seat does not feel heavy.

### Is a thicker cushion worth the extra cost on a long bench?

Each extra inch of foam raises the price, so ask for quotes at two or three thicknesses and compare them side by side. On a 111.5 in bench, one buyer weighed 4, 5 and 7 in and kept the standard 4 in.
