# Where are the cushions made, and do you actually make them yourselves?

*A fair question from anybody who has been burned before. Nobody else sews these cushions; they are cut and closed in the workshop's own atelier, one order at a time.*

Also asked as: Where are you located?; Where is this item made?

> **The quick answer:** The cushions are made in the workshop's own atelier, cut and sewn by hand to each order rather than bought in from another factory. The workshop is a manufacturer, not a reseller or sourcing agent. Its sales history is public, and a photo of your finished cushion can be sent before it ships.

## Key facts

- The workshop is a manufacturer, not a reseller or sourcing agent.
- Every cushion is handmade to order in its own atelier, from cutting to sewing.
- The shop's sales history is public.
- A photo of the finished cushion can be sent before it ships.
- Photos and videos of past orders are sent on request.
- There is no showroom; orders are delivered to the door.
- Every cushion is measured after sewing; a finished size can differ from the order by roughly 0.5 to 1 in (1 to 2 cm), the normal handmade tolerance.
- Production time depends on the order, and bespoke work takes longer; ask for the current time in writing.
- US deliveries go by air express courier, with tracking; ask for the delivery time with your quote.

## Cut, sewn and closed in one atelier

My friend, I have heard this question in one shape or another for fifty-some years, and it is a good one to ask. Plenty of cushions sold online were never touched by the people selling them.

These are. The workshop is a **manufacturer, not a reseller**. Every cushion is made to order in its own atelier: the fabric is cut there, and the seams are sewn and closed there. Nothing is bought in finished and passed along under a new label.

It is a busy room, and every order on its tables has a name and a size written on it. Buy the cushion once, cry once. That is easier to do when you know who made it.

## The follow-up: how do I know the shop is real?

Folks who have been stung by a fake shop ask this next, and they should. The workshop's sales history is public, so you can check its track record before you spend a cent. It is one of the questions we are asked most.

There is no showroom to walk into. Most buyers lean on [fabric swatches](https://cushionguide.com/guides/fabric-swatches-before-ordering/) and photos of past orders instead, and the order comes to the door. If you are about to ask for a quote, the [what to send Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-quote-what-to-send/) saves a round of messages.

What would put your mind at ease before you order?

## What you can check before you pay

- ✓ Photos and videos of past orders, sent when you ask in messages.
- ✓ The shop's public sales history.
- ✓ A [swatch](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#swatch) of your fabric, seen in your own room's light.
- ✓ A photo of your finished cushion before it ships, which the shop sends on request.
- ✓ Answers in writing: questions go through the shop's messages, and there are no phone or video calls.

> **Tailor's margin:** A real cushion workshop can show its work: a public sales history, pictures of past orders, and a photo of your finished cushion before it ships.

> A made-to-order cushion is cut and sewn in the workshop's own atelier, from the first cut to the last seam, not bought in from another factory.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Is this a real workshop, or just a storefront?

**The workshop's answer:** A real workshop, and a manufacturer rather than a reseller. Its sales history is public. Every piece is handmade, from cutting to sewing.

**A common question:** Where are your cushions actually made?

**The workshop's answer:** They're handmade to order in the workshop's own atelier.

**A common question:** Are you the manufacturer, or do you resell someone else's cushions?

**The workshop's answer:** The manufacturer. The workshop makes its products itself rather than sourcing them from another maker.

**A common question:** The teddy sofa listing has vanished. Can I still buy it?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The listing is paused now and then for a new version or after a rush of orders. Existing orders still ship, and the shop sends a custom link in your color at the same sale price.

## Questions buyers ask next

### With no showroom, how can I see the fabric before I commit?

Through fabric samples. Most buyers rely on swatches and photos of past orders, and the finished order is delivered to the door. A photo of your own cushion can also be sent before it ships.

### How busy is the workshop at any one time?

Many orders are in progress at once, and each one is cut and sewn to its own order, which is why custom pieces need several days of production before they ship.

### Can the logo or the carry handle be left off a cushion?

Yes. Cushions come with one carry handle as standard, and you can choose its side, add more handles or have none at all. Cushions can also be made without the logo.
