# What size sofa topper should I order for my couch?

*A sofa topper is the one cushion where an exact fit is the wrong fit. Here is the inch that matters, and the three details that go with your order.*

Also asked as: Would a 55 work, or am I better off with 54?; Custom cover, 89 inches x 24 inches?

> **The quick answer:** Order a sofa topper slightly larger than the seat it covers: for a 54 in (137 cm) couch, a 55 in (140 cm) pad fits more naturally and covers the sides, while an exact 54 in pad can end up tight. Toppers are made to exact size, so give your dimensions, the white or color code, and your fill preference.

## Key facts

- Size a sofa topper slightly larger than the seat: a 55 in (140 cm) pad for a 54 in (137 cm) couch.
- An exact-width topper can end up tight.
- Toppers are made to exact size through the quilted sofa topper listing.
- The real quilted finish is much flatter than a heavy quilted look.
- Several whites exist, so give the color code and your fill preference.
- For one custom white topper, production plus delivery took about 5-10 business days.

## “My couch is 54 inches. The 55 or the 54?”

The 55 in (140 cm). A topper is not a box cushion wedged between arms; it lies on top of the seat. One size up, and the pad reaches over the sides instead of stopping short. An exact 54 in (137 cm) pad can end up tight.

That is the opposite of a bench cushion, where the workshop builds to the full size of the space and a snug fit is the goal. Different job, different [tolerance](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#tolerance).

## “Can it look flatter, without the puffy quilting?”

Yes. The [sofa topper](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#sofa-topper) is made through the quilted topper listing, but its real finish is much flatter than a heavy quilted look. The review photos show the true profile, so look there before you decide.

State your fill preference in the order. One buyer after a flat white topper asked for medium fill.

## “My size is 89 x 24 in. Which option do I pick?”

Pick the listed option nearest your size, then write the real numbers in the personalization note. An 89 x 24 in (226 x 61 cm) topper was ordered under the 24 x 87 in (61 x 221 cm) option and made to its exact size. Measure twice; the fabric remembers.

If the dropdown feels like a puzzle, ask: the shop can set up a pre-configured custom order link for your size. The [personalization note Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-personalization-note/) and [sizes not on the menu](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-size-cushion-not-on-menu/) walk through both routes, and more covers live under [cushion covers](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/cushion-covers/). What does your seat measure across, partner?

## Four lines for the order note

- ✓ **Exact size,** width x depth, one size up from the seat, with the unit on every number.
- ✓ **White by code,** because there are several whites.
- ✓ **Fill preference,** such as medium.
- ✓ **A request for a pre-configured link,** if the size options confuse you.

> **Tailor's margin:** Sizing a sofa topper: go one size up from the seat. A 54 in couch takes the 55 in pad, which reaches over the sides instead of stopping short.

> An exact-size sofa topper looks right on paper and tight on the couch; a 55 in pad on a 54 in seat covers the sides.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** My couch is 54 inches wide. Do I order the 55-inch sofa pad or a 54?

**The workshop's answer:** Go slightly larger with the 55 in pad. A pad a little bigger than the seat fits more naturally and covers the sides, while an exact 54 in can end up tight.

**A common question:** Can you make a flat white sofa topper at 89 x 24 inches?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, through the quilted sofa topper listing, whose real finish is much flatter than a heavy quilted look; check the review photos. Choose the white by code, note a medium fill, select the 24 x 87 in option and write the exact size in personalization. Production plus delivery took about 5-10 business days.

**A common question:** Should I order a bench cushion a bit smaller than the bench so it fits?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Give the exact size of the space; sewing allowances are handled in the workshop and cushions are made to the full dimensions. Go smaller only for gaps between cushions or when a lift-up lid must clear.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why does a topper get extra room when a bench cushion doesn't?

A bench cushion is built to the full size of the space so it sits snug. A topper lies on top of the seat, so a pad slightly larger than the seat covers the sides and fits more naturally, while an exact match can end up tight.

### How long does a custom sofa topper take to arrive?

For one past custom white topper, production plus delivery took about 5-10 business days. Each topper is made to the size you write in the order, so check your numbers before you send them.

### Is there a simpler way to order an odd topper size?

Yes. The shop can set up a pre-configured custom order link for your size, so you do not have to work out which dropdown option matches it. Mention the white code and fill preference when you ask.
