# The sofa bars won't lock or keep coming apart. Am I missing a piece?

*Probably not. New joints are stiff. They ask for more force than seems polite.*

Also asked as: The bars keep getting disconnected.; They aren't fitting flush.

> **The quick answer:** Probably not: the teddy sofa bars fit, but they need more force than most people expect. Loosen each joint by clicking it into the corner piece and pulling it out several times, then push and twist until the small dots click. For a truly missing bar, photograph the parts and message the workshop; a newer one-piece frame exists for bars that keep separating.

## Key facts

- The bars need firm pressure to join.
- A stiff joint loosens after being clicked in and out of the corner piece several times.
- A metal insert grips each joint and small dots click into place.
- For a truly missing bar, a photo of the parts laid out on the floor is what to send the workshop.
- A newer frame has one-piece bars that stay locked once connected.
- Upgrade frames have gone to existing buyers who paid the shipping only.
- Each bar is steel tube about ⅝ in (16 mm) in diameter; no screws are needed.
- Bars ship in their own box of about 16 x 16 x 2 in, weighing about 9 lb, apart from the cushion rolls.

## “Am I missing a piece?”

Usually not. The bars fit. They are tight when new, and they need more force than feels reasonable.

Before you search for a missing part, count what arrived against your layout. Check that every parcel has landed; the bars travel in their own small box. How many units are in your layout?

## “How do I make them lock?”

1. **Loosen the joint first**: Click the bar into the corner piece and pull it out again. Repeat several times. The fit eases.
2. **Push and twist**: Hold both sections close to the joint. Push them together and twist at the same time, with firm pressure.
3. **Listen for the dots**: A metal insert inside grips the joint, and small dots click into place. The click means it is locked.
4. **Force, not a hammer**: The answer to the hammer question was more push and twist, not a tool. If a joint still won't seat, ask the shop for its setup video.

## “They still come apart. Is there a sturdier frame?”

Yes. A newer frame uses one-piece bars. There is nothing to assemble, and once connected they stay put.

The shop has sent this frame to existing buyers whose bars kept separating. They paid the shipping only. The full assembly is in [floor sofa support bars](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-sofa-support-bars-assembly/), the parts are named in the [metal support bars](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#metal-support-bars) entry, and the sofas themselves are under [modular floor sofas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/).

## “One bar really is missing. What now?”

Then photograph the parts laid out on the floor and message the shop. In past cases it sent the missing piece or a whole new set. The photo keeps the conversation short.

Stiff is not broken.
A click is the answer.
Then sit.

> **Tailor's margin:** Teddy sofa bars that won't lock usually need loosening: click each joint into the corner piece and out several times, then push and twist.

> Floor sofa bars that keep coming apart are usually stiff, not faulty: push and twist with firm force until the small dots click into place.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** How do the metal support bars go together? Mine keep separating.

**The workshop's answer:** Twist and push the sections together; a metal insert grips the joint and small dots click into place. Stiff joints loosen if you click them in and out a few times, and the shop sends a setup video. Newer one-piece bars need no assembly and were sent to a buyer whose bars kept separating; the buyer paid the shipping.

**A common question:** The bars won't lock or sit flush. Do I need a hammer, or is a piece missing?

**The workshop's answer:** They fit, but you need to push and twist harder. Loosen each joint first by clicking it into the corner piece and out several times. If a bar really is missing, the shop sends that piece or a whole new set.

**A common question:** My metal bars keep coming apart. Is there a sturdier frame?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. A newer iron frame has bars that attach to each other and stay put once connected. It was sent to an existing buyer who paid only a shipping charge.

**A common question:** There are rust-colored spots on the new bars. Are they rusting?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop says it's oxide residue from production, not rust, and it usually wipes off with a cloth. If it doesn't, or a bar is damaged, send a photo; replacement bars have been sent in that case.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Is it normal for brand-new bar joints to refuse to click?

Yes. The joints are made to grip, so they need firm pressure when new. Clicking each one into the corner piece and out again several times eases the fit before the final push and twist.

### Will the newer one-piece frame work with the sofa I already own?

It has been sent to existing buyers whose bars kept separating, and they paid only the shipping. Tell the shop which sofa and how many units you own so the right frame goes out.

### What should I do if a bar arrived bent?

Send a photo of the damaged bar to the shop. Replacement bars have been sent for bars that arrived damaged, so there is no need to force a bent one into place.
