# Do you make slipcovers, headboards, bed frames or tablecloths?

*A cushion workshop is a cushion workshop. Knowing exactly where the line sits saves a week of messages and a chair cover that almost fits.*

Also asked as: A custom cover with a skirt to hide the legs?; A headboard made of four cushions?

> **The quick answer:** No, the workshop makes foam cushions and covers only, not fitted slipcovers with skirts for upholstered chairs, rigid headboard panels, bed frames, tablecloths or canopies. Its fabrics are at most 55 in (140 cm) wide. What it can make instead: removable cushion covers and custom foam cushions cut to your measurements, including lift-out cushions for a Murphy bed gap.

## Key facts

- Production is foam cushions and covers only.
- No drape-over slipcovers with skirts for fixed upholstery.
- No rigid plywood-backed headboard panels or support frames, and no custom bed frames.
- No tablecloths or canopies; the canopies in the photos were props.
- Fabric is at most 55 in (140 cm) wide, so large one-piece cloths aren't possible.
- A foam play set was quoted as individual covers for each 28 x 28 x 4 in block, not one shaped slipcover.

## Asked for, answered, and the workable alternative

| Lift-out cushions for a Murphy bed gap | Made | Foam cushions to your measurements |
| Custom bed frame | Not made | Cushions and covers only |
| Tablecloths or canopies | Not made; the photo canopies were props | Nothing wider than 55 in (140 cm) of fabric |
| One shaped slipcover for a foam play set | Not made | Individual covers for each 28 x 28 x 4 in block |
| Kids' funbed in a new size | Normally not changed | 65 x 35.5 in (165 x 90 cm) offered for 2 units only |

## Why the line sits at the frame

A drape-over slipcover has to fit a chair's arms, back and legs, which means fitting the frame itself. The workshop won't attempt a piece that may not fit, and I respect that. I've watched enough near-miss slipcovers sag in my time to know it's the honest call.

Foam and fabric are another matter. Give a size and you get a cushion or a [removable cover](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#cover-only) that matches it, whether that's [backrest cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/backrest-cushions/) for a wall or covers for foam you already own; the [covers for existing foam Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-covers-for-existing-foam/) shows how to measure.

So tell me, dear: is the thing you want covered a cushion you can lift out, or a frame?

## The Murphy bed headboard that became cushions

A buyer wrote to the workshop wanting a lift-out headboard for a wall bed. The brief called for plywood-backed rigid panels, a removable support frame, hook-and-loop or clip attachments, and fabric they would supply. The shop offered what it does well: separate foam cushions made to the measurements, which lift out. The rest it declined, and said plainly that it's upholstery and carpentry work a local upholsterer or carpenter will do better.

## Jobs for a local upholsterer or carpenter

- ✗ Plywood-backed rigid headboard panels
- ✗ Removable support frames
- ✗ Hook-and-loop or clip attachment systems
- ✗ Covering a piece in fabric you supply
- ✗ Drape-over [slipcovers](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#slipcover) with skirts for fixed upholstery

> **Tailor's margin:** A skirted slipcover for an upholstered chair is a fit-to-the-frame job; a cushion workshop makes removable covers and foam cushions instead.

> Cushion fabric tops out at 55 in (140 cm) wide, so a big one-piece tablecloth was never going to come off this cutting table.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can you make a full slipcover with a skirt for my upholstered chair?

**The workshop's answer:** No. For fixed upholstery the craftsmen don't make drape-over slipcovers with skirts, and the shop won't attempt something that may not fit. Removable cushion covers and custom cushions are made instead.

**A common question:** Could you build a lift-out upholstered headboard for a Murphy bed?

**The workshop's answer:** Separate foam cushions made to your measurements that lift out, yes. Plywood-backed panels, a removable support frame, hook-and-loop or clip attachments and customer-supplied fabric, no; that is upholstery and carpentry work a local upholsterer or carpenter will do better.

**A common question:** Do you make tablecloths, or canopies like the ones in your photos?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Tablecloths aren't made, and the fabrics are at most 55 in (140 cm) wide, so large one-piece cloths aren't possible. The canopies were props made for the photo shoot.

**A common question:** Can the kids' funbed come in another size, or a foam play set get one fitted slipcover?

**The workshop's answer:** Funbed sizes normally aren't changed; a custom 65 x 35.5 in (165 x 90 cm) version was offered only for an order of two units. For the play set, only individual covers for each 28 x 28 x 4 in block could be quoted.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Can I order just covers for foam I already own?

Yes. Removable covers are made to your foam's measurements. Covers-only costs less than a full cushion, though on small pieces the saving shrinks, because most of the cost is the custom cover itself.

### Can the carry handle be moved or left off a custom cushion?

Yes. Cushions come with one carry handle as standard. You can choose which side it goes on, add more handles, or have no handle at all, and cushions can also be made without the logo.

### Why won't the workshop try a slipcover even with exact measurements?

A drape-over slipcover has to fit the frame of fixed upholstery, and the workshop won't attempt a piece that may not fit. Its production is foam cushions and covers, where your measurements translate directly into the finished size.
