# Does the delivery need a signature, or can it be left at my door?

*The carrier notice says 'signature required' and you'll be at work all day. Usually the order ships without one, whatever the notice says, and when it doesn't, it can be changed.*

Also asked as: Can you change the FedEx delivery to no signature?; Please advise the delivery carrier

> **The quick answer:** Usually no: orders ship by FedEx without signature required, so the courier can leave them at your address even if a carrier notice mentions a signature. The shop can pass your delivery instructions and your permission to leave parcels to the courier. If a signature requirement is blocking delivery, for example when the courier can't get into your building, it can ask the carrier to remove it.

## Key facts

- Shipments go by FedEx without signature required.
- No signature is needed even if a carrier notice mentions one.
- Delivery notes can be added for the courier.
- Your permission to leave parcels at the property can be passed on.
- If a signature requirement blocks delivery, the shop can ask the carrier to remove it.
- A floor sofa roll pack is roughly 45 x 12 x 12 in (110-120 x 30 x 30 cm) and weighs about 18-33 lb (8-15 kg); the bar box is about 16 x 16 x 2 in (40 x 40 x 5 cm) and about 9 lb (4 kg).
- After dispatch, US transit is counted in business days; the workshop gives its current estimate with your quote.

## Five checks before your cushion parcels arrive

- ✓ Read the tracking notice, but don't panic over a signature line; orders normally ship without one.
- ✓ Message the shop your delivery instructions: side door, back porch, building lobby.
- ✓ Say in writing that parcels may be left at the property.
- ✓ Add a reachable phone number in the order note so the courier can arrange delivery.
- ✓ Away that week? Send your travel dates so the order can be held.

## What can't be promised about delivery?

- ✗ Updating your account profile address; it doesn't change an order already placed.
- ✗ Changing the address after dispatch; the carrier has to be asked, and it isn't guaranteed.
- ✗ A promised delivery day; it can't be guaranteed, though you can adjust the day with the courier.

## When a signature really does get in the way

Most doorsteps are easy. The trouble is the apartment building with a locked lobby, where the courier can't reach your door and a signature line turns a delivery into a missed-delivery slip. Tell the shop, and it can ask the carrier to remove the requirement.

A floor sofa won't arrive as one box. It ships as several parcels, [roll packs](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#roll-pack) of cushions plus a small box of metal bars, often a day or two apart, so leave-at-door permission matters twice over. Once they're inside, the [first 72 hours after unpacking](https://cushionguide.com/guides/vacuum-packed-cushion-first-72-hours/) are when the foam comes back to shape. The [modular floor sofas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) atlas shows what's in those boxes.

Is there a covered spot by your door where a box can sit out of the rain, friend?

> **Tailor's margin:** A 'signature required' line on a courier notice doesn't always apply: cushion orders ship without one, and the shop can ask the carrier to drop it.

> To have a cushion delivery left at the door, message the shop your permission and delivery instructions; it passes both to the courier.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can the FedEx delivery be left without a signature?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Orders aren't shipped signature-required, so they're delivered straight to your address, and delivery instructions can be passed to the courier.

**A common question:** The carrier's notice mentions a signature. Can the parcels be left at my door?

**The workshop's answer:** No signature was required, whatever the notice said, and the buyer's permission to leave parcels at the property was noted for the courier.

**A common question:** Can I change my delivery address after ordering?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, before it ships: message the correct address right away, since updating your profile doesn't change the order. After dispatch the carrier has to be asked, and a change isn't guaranteed.

**A common question:** I'll be away when it's due. Can you hold it until I'm back?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Share your travel dates; the order is held, reconfirmed with you, and shipped to arrive after you return. You can also adjust the day with the courier.

## Questions buyers ask next

### What if the courier can't get into my apartment building?

Tell the shop. When a signature requirement is what's stopping delivery, as with a locked building entrance, it can ask the carrier to remove the requirement so the parcel can be left.

### Where do I put leave-at-door instructions for the courier?

Send them to the shop in a message or the order note. It passes delivery instructions to the courier, including your permission to leave parcels at the property. Add a reachable phone number too.

### Will I have to sign for every box of a floor sofa?

Normally no signature is needed at all. A sofa ships as several parcels, roll packs of cushions plus a small box of metal bars, that often arrive a day or two apart.
