# Can I use a coupon on a custom order, and does the sale still apply?

*Folks ask about a coupon on a custom order as if the sale stopped at the standard sizes. It doesn't, and that is most of the story.*

Also asked as: Does the 40% come off this custom price?; Would the sale apply to a custom size?

> **The quick answer:** Usually, yes: past custom quotes were already priced with the store sale running at the time, and that held for custom sizes too. A coupon didn't stack on top, because two discounts weren't combined. Forgot a valid code on a regular listing order? In past cases the buyer sent the code and the discount was refunded without canceling. Ask the workshop before you pay.

## Key facts

- Past custom quotes already included the store sale running at the time.
- The sale has applied to custom sizes too.
- Two discounts have not been combined.
- Custom order links are priced net; an order placed on one with a code may fail and should be placed again without it.
- A forgotten code on a listing order has been refunded without canceling.
- A 'come back' code sent after a purchase has been for the next order only.
- When a payment failed, the discount was reapplied.

## Coupon and sale checks before you pay for a custom cushion

- ✓ Read a custom quote as the sale price already; in past quotes the store sale was built in.
- ✓ Ask whether the running sale covers your custom size; in past cases it did.
- ✓ Pick one discount: two haven't been combined, and the built-in sale has usually been the better one.
- ✓ Place a custom-link order with no code; with one, it may fail and need placing again.
- ✓ Keep a 'come back' code for your next order.
- ✓ If a payment fails, ask for the discount to be reapplied.

## Why a custom quote is a net price

A custom quote is written like a finished seam: everything is already inside it. The workshop prices your size, fabric and options, takes off whatever sale is running across the store, and sends you that number. A coupon laid on top has nothing left to open.

Sales come and go, deeper at some times than others. When one buyer missed a sale, the workshop reactivated it so they could still buy at the earlier price. Buy the cushion once, cry once, and ask before you pay.

Send what [the quote Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-quote-what-to-send/) lists, and for sizes off the menu read [ordering a custom size](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-size-cushion-not-on-menu/). Which cushion are you pricing this week, my friend?

## Forgot the code on a regular order

1. **Leave the order alone**: No need to cancel and place it again.
2. **Send the code**: Message the workshop with the valid code you meant to enter.
3. **Watch for the refund**: In past cases the discount amount came back to the buyer directly.

> **Tailor's margin:** A custom cushion quote is a net price: the store sale running at the time has been inside it, so a second coupon hasn't stacked.

> A forgotten discount code on a regular listing order needed no cancellation: the buyer sent the code and the discount amount was refunded directly.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** I forgot to apply my discount code. Do I have to cancel and order again?

**The workshop's answer:** No. In past cases the buyer sent the code and the discount was refunded directly. Custom order links are the exception: they're priced net, and an order placed on one with a code may fail and need placing again without it.

**A common question:** Does the 40% sale count on my custom quote, and can I add another code on top?

**The workshop's answer:** That buyer's quote already included the running sale. Two discounts weren't combined, so it was one or the other, and the built-in sale was the better pick.

**A common question:** Does the sale cover custom sizes, and how do the codes work?

**The workshop's answer:** In past cases, yes: the sale covered custom sizes, and when a payment failed the discount was reapplied. A 'come back' code sent after a purchase was for the next order, not the current one.

**A common question:** My budget is below your quote. Is there any room?

**The workshop's answer:** Share the budget. In past cases the workshop met it, trimmed the quote, or suggested a shorter length or seats without backrests.

## Questions buyers ask next

### My cushion is smaller than the nearest size option. Do I pay for the bigger size?

Not necessarily. Below the smallest option, past buyers ordered that option and the workshop refunded the difference to the quote for their size, and a few inches shorter has sometimes earned a small partial refund. Write your exact size and ask before you order.

### Are first-time buyers ever offered a lower price?

Sometimes. The workshop has offered some first orders a lower price, close to cost. It isn't a published code, so mention that it's your first order when you ask for the quote.

### How often do store sales come around?

Periodically, and the depth changes from sale to sale, so this site doesn't quote a figure. Whatever sale was running when a past quote was written was already inside its number.
