# Which linen color is closest to sage green?

*Two greens share the linen chart, and only one of them is sage. The other changes its mood with the light.*

Also asked as: Some kind of sage-colored fabric?; Is L-25 definitely green, or is there any blue hue?

> **The quick answer:** L-24 is the closest linen to sage green: a soft, muted gray-green squarely in the sage family. L-25 is the other linen green, but much darker and cooler; it reads deep green in warm indoor light and can lean slightly teal in cool daylight, though it isn't a blue fabric. Ask to see L-24 photographed beside a warm neutral such as L-54.

## L-24, the green that came back gray

Sage is a green that has spent a summer in the sun and come home a little gray at the edges. On the linen chart that is L-24: soft, muted, quiet enough to sit under a window on a [bench cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/) without shouting at the rug.

Its companion on the chart, L-25, is a different animal. It is darker and cooler, with a very slight cool undertone: under warm lamps it reads deep green, and in cool daylight it can lean slightly teal. It is not a blue fabric, and it is not a sage.

Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does. What light does your bench sit in most of the day? Hold that answer when you look at the close-ups, and read [screen versus daylight](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-color-screen-vs-daylight/) before you trust a thumbnail. Both greens live in the [linen and cotton-linen](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/linen-and-cotton-linen/) family, and a [swatch](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#swatch) settles what a photo can't.

## The two linen greens and their neutral

| Code | What it is | How it behaves |
|---|---|---|
| L-24 | Soft, muted gray-green | The sage of the linen chart |
| L-25 | Dark, muted green with a slight cool undertone | Deep green in warm indoor light; can lean slightly teal in cool daylight; never blue |
| L-54 | Warm neutral | Photographed beside L-24 as a reference point |

## Before you commit to sage

- ✓ Ask for a close-up of L-24.
- ✓ Ask for L-24 photographed next to L-54, a warm neutral.
- ✓ If L-25 tempts you, picture it in the coolest light your room gets.
- ✓ Order a sample: greens are the hardest shades to judge on a screen.
- ✓ Narrow your list to two or three codes; you can still switch before production.

> **Tailor's margin:** Sage green linen for a bench cushion is L-24; L-25 is darker and can lean slightly teal in cool daylight.

> L-25 linen is a deep green in warm lamplight and a slightly teal green in cool daylight, yet it is never a blue fabric.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Is L25 truly green, or does it pull blue?

**The workshop's answer:** It's a dark, muted green with a very slight cool undertone. Warm indoor light makes it read deep green, and cool daylight can tip it slightly teal, but it isn't a blue fabric.

**A common question:** I'm looking for a sage linen. Which code comes closest?

**The workshop's answer:** L-24, a soft, muted gray-green squarely in the sage family. L-25 is the other green but much darker and cooler, not a sage. The workshop sends close-ups and can photograph L-24 next to a neutral such as L-54.

**A common question:** Could you just pick the color for me?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop would rather you choose, since color is personal, but it suggests codes on request and sends close-ups. Narrow your list to two or three codes; you can still switch before production.

**A common question:** Is that dark fabric a true black, or a charcoal?

**The workshop's answer:** Often not black. Several dark codes are dark gray, near-black navy, dark brown or charcoal, and one is a near-black anthracite. Ask for a photo before ordering if you need a true black.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why does a green linen look different on my phone than on the cushion?

Screens and camera settings shift tone, and greens, sage especially, are among the hardest colors to judge that way. Daylight gives the honest reading, so ask for a daylight close-up or order a sample before you settle on a code.

### Can I see L-24 beside another fabric before ordering?

Yes. The workshop can photograph L-24 next to a warm neutral such as L-54, or beside any other code you're weighing, so you judge the green against a reference instead of on its own.

### Which linen should I pick for a green darker than sage?

L-25. It's a dark, muted green with a slight cool undertone: deep green under warm lamps and a touch teal in cool daylight. It isn't a sage, and it isn't a blue.
