# Can you make banquette or booth cushions for a restaurant or client project?

*Commercial booths are the same cushions as a kitchen banquette, only more of them and less forgiveness for a sloppy drawing. Here is what the workshop needs from a designer or an owner.*

Also asked as: Cushions for a booth at a restaurant.; A U shape in three separate cushions.

> **The quick answer:** Yes: custom restaurant booth and banquette cushions are made for commercial and client projects. Send a drawing with every dimension, all in inches or all in centimeters, never mixed, plus your fabric codes. U-shaped and long booths are made as separate pads, matching lumbar pillows come in custom lengths, and the workshop confirms production and delivery times with the quote.

## Key facts

- Drawings are checked for inconsistencies before any quote.
- Give every measurement in inches only or centimeters only.
- Send fabric codes with the drawing.
- U-shaped booths are made as separate pads, e.g. two 24 x 19 in (61 x 48 cm) ends and one 14 ft x 19 in (427 x 48 cm) run.
- Matching lumbar pillows can be made 12 in (30 cm) tall in custom lengths.
- Trade and bulk orders can be discounted.
- Production and delivery times come with the quote, in writing.

## Every drawing gets added up before the price

Right, then. Send the drawing with every dimension and your fabric codes, and before anyone prices a thing, it gets added up. Two 50 in (127 cm) cushions on a 103 in (262 cm) run? That leaves 3 in of bare bench, and it gets flagged on paper, where fixing it costs one reply.

Mixed units have tripped up better tailors than me, dear, which is why the rule is all inches or all centimeters, never both on one sheet. The [banquette cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/banquette-cushions/) hub and the [U-shaped banquette pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/u-shaped-banquette-cushions/) show how pads are laid out; [cafe and rental cushion specs](https://cushionguide.com/guides/commercial-cushions-cafe-rental-specs/) cover the commercial side.

## A U-shaped restaurant booth, cut as three pads

A buyer in the US asked about a U-shaped restaurant booth. The answer was three separate pads: two 24 x 19 in (61 x 48 cm) ends and one 14 ft x 19 in (427 x 48 cm) run. Before quoting, the workshop asked for every final measurement in one unit. Production plus delivery was quoted at about 1-2 weeks.

## Maggie's booth sheet: what goes on one cushion drawing?

- ✓ One drawing, every dimension on it, all in inches or all in centimeters.
- ✓ Each pad drawn separately: ends and runs.
- ✓ Seat depth on every run.
- ✓ Fabric codes for seats and pillows.
- ✓ Lumbar pillow height, such as 12 in (30 cm), and each length.
- ✓ Quantities across all booths, so trade pricing can be quoted.

> **Tailor's margin:** Add up a booth drawing before you send it: two 50 in cushions on a 103 in run leave 3 in of bare bench.

> Restaurant booth cushions start with one drawing in one unit, all inches or all centimeters, with the fabric codes written beside it.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** I'm an interior designer. Can you handle custom banquette cushions and lumbar pillows for client projects?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send drawings with every dimension and your fabric codes; they're checked for inconsistencies before quoting. Matching lumbar pillows can be made, for example 12 in tall in custom lengths, bulk orders can be discounted, and the workshop confirms production and delivery times with the quote.

**A common question:** What foam density and fabric rating go into commercial seating?

**The workshop's answer:** Commercial cushions use about 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) high-density foam as standard, firmer than a 1.75 lb/ft³ (28 kg/m³) spec, and contract fabrics rated 40,000 Martindale. Send the quantity, sizes and type of space for a proposal, and the production time comes with it.

**A common question:** Is there a discount for ordering several cushions at once?

**The workshop's answer:** Often, yes. Send every size and quantity and the whole list gets one package price; ask whether shipping is in it.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Can a 14 ft booth seat be a single cushion?

Yes. On the U-shaped booth above, the long run was one 14 ft x 19 in (427 x 48 cm) pad, with the two 24 x 19 in ends made as separate pads.

### Why must booth measurements stay in one unit?

A drawing that mixes inches and centimeters invites a cushion cut in the wrong unit, so final measurements are requested in one unit only.

### Can floor sofa sets be made in bulk for a cafe?

Yes. Floor sofa sets with backrests and armrests are made in custom sizes for shops, cafes and playrooms, with trade pricing on multiple sets. Send every piece, size and quantity, plus your opening date.

### Do restaurant booth cushions need fire-rated materials?

Often, yes: commercial seating can fall under local fire codes, so check with your code official before ordering anything. The workshop's standard foam has no flame-retardant treatment and it has no certified fire-retardant foam, so it can't meet a rule that requires treated filling. A treated cover fabric on its own wouldn't make the whole cushion compliant either.

### Why do commercial booths use layered foam?

Because the seat never rests. Commercial booth cushions are often built with a very firm base layer and a softer foam on top, so the edge keeps its shape under constant use while the surface stays comfortable. The workshop's standard seat is one firm grade of 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) foam, so ask about layered builds for a contract job before assuming they're available.
