# Something wore out after about a year. Can I get replacement parts?

*A sofa that gets lived on will show it somewhere: a zipper, a seam, an arm that carried a whole winter of movie nights. Here's what the workshop has done when that happens.*

Also asked as: The zipper came off when I unzipped it.; The seams came undone.

> **The quick answer:** In past cases, yes: for wear within about a year the workshop has sent replacement covers, inserts and cover panels, and the buyer paid only the shipping. That has included a sofa cover whose zipper came off, an insert whose lining pilled and leaked foam bits, new arm inserts and a torn panel. Send photos and say which piece is affected.

## Key facts

- Worn covers and inserts within about a year have been replaced with the buyer paying only the shipping.
- A sofa cover with a broken zipper and opened seams was replaced.
- An insert whose lining pilled and leaked foam bits was replaced.
- Replacement arm inserts and single cover panels are available.
- Replacement frames were offered when metal bars arrived with rust or tape residue.
- Warranty terms come from the workshop, not from this site.
- A full replacement cover set for one floor sofa is 4 pieces: 2 seat covers and 2 L-shaped backrest covers, without foam or bars.
- Replacement seat cushions use the same firm 28-density foam (T28, ILD 42), cut for a 79 x 39 in (200 x 100 cm) seat.

## One worn piece, not a whole new sofa

A [modular floor sofa](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) is a family of parts, and parts wear at different speeds. The arm everybody leans on goes first. The zipper someone yanks every laundry day comes next.

The good news, neighbor: in past cases the workshop replaced the part, not the whole sofa. For wear within about a year, buyers have received a new cover, a new insert, new arm inserts or a single panel, and paid only the shipping. The [replacement covers Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-sofa-replacement-covers/) shows how the pieces fit together, and the [pilling Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-fabric-pilling/) explains why some linings fuzz up.

Which piece in your house takes the hardest sitting?

## The insert that started shedding

A buyer in the US wrote in before the year was out. One sofa insert's lining had started pilling, and little bits of foam were working their way out. No long back-and-forth, no argument about who sat on it how. The workshop sent a replacement insert, and the buyer paid only the cost of shipping it.

## Asking for a replacement part

1. **Photograph the damage**: One close-up of the zipper, seam or lining, and one of the whole piece.
2. **Name the exact piece**: The L-shaped top cover, the left arm insert, one frame: be specific.
3. **Say roughly when it arrived**: Wear within about a year is where replacements for shipping only have been given.
4. **Cover the shipping**: In past cases the buyer paid only the shipping on the replacement part; the workshop's reply says what it will send.

> **Tailor's margin:** Replacement sofa cushion inserts and covers for wear within about a year have been sent for the price of shipping alone; photos come first.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** About a year in, the zipper on my sofa cover came off and seams opened. Is there any support?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. A free replacement cover was sent for that piece, the L-shaped top section, and the buyer paid only the shipping.

**A common question:** A panel tore and the arms have gone soft. What are my options?

**The workshop's answer:** Replacement parts, with only the shipping to cover: a torn cover panel, new arm inserts for a sofa after a year of use, and new frames when metal bars arrived with rust or tape residue.

**A common question:** Do the cushions and sofas come with a warranty?

**The workshop's answer:** Warranty terms are the workshop's to state, not this site's, so ask for them in writing and keep that message. Photograph a fault the day you see it. Refunds haven't been given after months of use, though replacement parts have.

**A common question:** My sofa seat cushions sagged within weeks. Will you replace them?

**The workshop's answer:** Send photos and say when the box was opened. In past cases, cushions that sagged within weeks or never fully expanded were replaced with seat cushions of firm 28-density foam, and partial refunds were offered to buyers still unhappy afterward.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Is wear after a year handled the same as damage on arrival?

Not quite. Faults on arrival, such as damage, wrong items or loose stitching, are a separate conversation, started with photos the day the box opens. Wear within about a year has been handled with replacement parts, with the buyer paying only the shipping.

### Can I get a new cover for just one sofa piece?

Yes. Replacement covers, inserts and single cover panels are sent per piece, so name the exact piece, such as one arm insert or the L-shaped top cover, and include photos of the wear.

### What if the metal support bars arrive rusty or sticky?

Send photos. New frames have been offered when metal bars arrived with rust or tape residue on them, so you don't have to live with marked bars under a new sofa.
