# Can you make seat and back cushions for my rattan sofa or lounge set?

*Yes. A rattan set is a list of frames, and each frame is a list of measurements. Send the list; the workshop turns it into a cutting plan.*

> **The quick answer:** Rattan sofa replacement cushions are made from your photos and the inside frame sizes, with every seat and back cushion planned before production. An 86½ x 86½ in (220 x 220 cm) rattan sofa got two 5 in (13 cm) thick seats and eight back pillows. Curved wicker chairs get a template drawn from your photos, and you approve the plan first.

## Key facts

- Replacement cushion sets are quoted from photos and sizes.
- Give the inside frame size of each seat and the thickness you want.
- One plan: two 86½ x 28¾ x 5 in (220 x 73 x 13 cm) seats and eight 28¾ x 15¾ in (73 x 40 cm) back pillows.
- For curved chairs, the workshop draws a visual template from your photos.
- You confirm the plan before production starts.
- Thickness can still change before production, for example 6 in (15 cm) down to 5 in (13 cm).

## What to send for a rattan or wicker set

- ✓ Photos of every piece, with the old cushions off.
- ✓ The inside frame size of each seat: width and depth, measured inside the arms.
- ✓ The thickness you want, in inches.
- ✓ Which pieces need back cushions, and how deep the backrests should be.
- ✓ A note on any curved chair, so a template can be drawn from your photos.

## Two real rattan plans, piece by piece

| Furniture | Seats | Backs |
|---|---|---|
| Rattan sofa, 86½ x 86½ x 28¾ in (220 x 220 x 73 cm) | 2 seats, 86½ x 28¾ x 5 in (220 x 73 x 13 cm) | 8 back pillows, 28¾ x 15¾ in (73 x 40 cm) |
| Rattan lounge set | 1 at 25½ x 25½ in (65 x 65 cm), 2 at 25½ x 31½ in (65 x 80 cm), 2 at 31½ x 31½ in (80 x 80 cm) | 4 backrests, 9¾ in (25 cm) deep |

## Why the plan starts at the frame

Old cushions drift, partner. Foam settles and covers stretch; the frame stays put. So the plan starts with the inside of each frame, then the thickness you choose, and the thickness can still move before cutting. One sofa set went from 6 in to 5 in (15 to 13 cm) after the plan was drawn.

For a curved-back wicker chair, a tape measure only gets you halfway. Clear photos let the workshop draw a template for each chair type, and you check the curve before anything is cut. If you'd rather trace it yourself, the [paper template Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/paper-template-for-custom-cushion/) shows how.

How many pieces are in your set?

> **Tailor's margin:** Rattan sofa replacement cushions start from the inside frame size, not the old cushion: the new seat has to drop between the arms.

> Replacement cushion thickness can change until production starts: one rattan sofa set went from 6 in to 5 in after the cutting plan was drawn.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can you make seat cushions and back pillows for a rattan sofa, plus two wicker chairs?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send photos, the inside frame size and your thickness. One 86½ in (220 cm) sofa was planned as two 5 in (13 cm) seats and eight back pillows, with a template drawn for each chair type. Thickness went from 6 in to 5 in before production.

**A common question:** I need seat and back cushions for a rattan lounge, or a couch frame I built myself. Possible?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, from photos and sizes. One lounge set was quoted as five seats in three sizes, from 25½ x 25½ in (65 x 65 cm) to 31½ x 31½ in (80 x 80 cm), plus four backrests 9¾ in (25 cm) deep.

**A common question:** Can you copy the seat and back cushions I already have?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send photos with the seat and back measurements; the workshop replicates them and quotes per chair, and the quote states the shipping cost. Thinner foam, 4 in (10 cm) rather than 6 in (15 cm), costs less.

## Questions buyers ask next

### How long can one rattan sofa seat cushion be?

One piece is usually possible on request; cushions of 104 in and 138 in have been made. The workshop still recommends about 79 to 90 in (200 to 230 cm) per piece and often suggests two equal pieces for easier shipping and handling.

### Can several seat cushions sit flush on one long rattan frame?

Yes. Divide the total inside length into equal pieces and send each cushion's width, depth and thickness. Order each section separately, and go slightly smaller only if you want gaps between them.

### Does a straight-sided wicker chair need a template?

No. Straight seats only need inside width, depth and thickness. Templates are for curved or shaped chairs, and the workshop draws those from your photos for you to confirm.
