# Checkout makes me fill in personalization. What do I write, and will it be printed on the item?

*Nothing gets printed, stitched or embroidered. The box is a note to the courier, and on some listings a note to the tailor.*

Also asked as: It keeps asking me for personalization; What am I supposed to put in personalization?

> **The quick answer:** On listings where you choose size and color from dropdowns, write your phone number in the required personalization box; it goes only to the shipping company so the courier can reach you before delivery. Nothing you type is printed on the cushion or sofa. If the listing only has a size dropdown, add your fabric code, piping code and exact measurements too.

## Key facts

- The required personalization box is used for your delivery phone number.
- The phone number goes only to the shipping company.
- The courier uses it to contact you before delivery.
- Nothing typed in the personalization box is printed on the product.
- Size and color are chosen from the listing options where those dropdowns exist.
- On size-only listings, the fabric code, piping code and exact measurements go in the box too.
- On size-only listings, write the thickness too: 4 in (10 cm) is standard, with 2, 3 and 5 in also listed.
- Measurements can be written in inches, down to the ¼ in, or in cm.
- Write sizes as length x depth x thickness, such as 40 x 18 x 4 in.

## What goes in the box, by listing type

| The listing has | Write in the box | Who reads it |
|---|---|---|
| Size and color dropdowns | Your phone number | The shipping company only, so the courier can call before delivery |
| A size dropdown only | Phone number, fabric code, piping code, exact measurements | The courier (phone) and the tailor (codes and sizes) |
| You can't tell which | Both: phone number and your codes | Nobody prints any of it on the cushion |
| Your typed size differs from the dropdown | Your exact size | The tailor: the typed size wins, and the dropdown sets the range and price |

## Why a cushion listing wants your phone number

Buyers write in a little alarmed: where does the personalization appear on the sofa? Nowhere. The box is required at checkout, and on listings where size and color come from dropdowns it is simply where your phone number goes. That number is passed only to the shipping company, so the courier can contact you before delivery.

Size-only listings are the exception. There the box also carries your fabric code, piping code and exact measurements, the details the tailor cuts from. The [personalization note Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-personalization-note/) shows a full example, and a [fabric code](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#fabric-code) always beats a color name. Which kind of listing are you on, dear: color dropdowns or size only?

## Filling it in without a second thought

- ✓ Pick size and color from the dropdowns first, where the listing has them.
- ✓ Type your phone number in the personalization box.
- ✓ Size-only listing? Add your fabric code, piping code and exact measurements.
- ✓ Unsure which listing you're on? Give both; nothing ends up on the product.
- ✓ Want a name stitched on? The workshop doesn't embroider or print text, so leave that out.

> **Tailor's margin:** The required personalization box on a cushion listing is for your phone number, which goes only to the courier; nothing typed there is printed.

> Personalization on a cushion order is a note, not a decoration: nothing typed in the box is printed on the cushion or the sofa.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** I typed my phone number in the personalization box. Will it show up on the item?

**The workshop's answer:** No. The phone number goes only to the shipping company so the courier can contact you before delivery. The personalization box is the normal place to put it.

**A common question:** The listing won't let me check out without personalization. What do I put there?

**The workshop's answer:** Just your phone number. The delivery company needs it to reach you, and nothing is printed on the product. Choose the size and color from the options as normal.

**A common question:** Could you stitch our family name onto the cushion?

**The workshop's answer:** No. The workshop doesn't embroider, print or letter names or text. On a cushion order, personalization means your size, fabric and piping codes, not decoration; the cushion itself can be made in any size and fabric.

**A common question:** My typed size and the dropdown size are different. Which one do you make?

**The workshop's answer:** Your typed exact size. The dropdown only sets the size range and price, and colors agreed in writing override default listing fields. Size and color are confirmed with you when production starts.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Will the courier call me before the delivery arrives?

That is what the number is for. It goes only to the shipping company, so the courier can contact you before delivery. It doesn't appear anywhere on the cushion, the sofa or the cover.

### Do I still choose size and color from the dropdowns?

Yes, where the listing has them. Choose size and color from the options as normal and use the box for your phone number; only size-only listings need your fabric code, piping code and exact measurements written in.

### What if I can't tell which kind of listing I'm on?

Write both: your phone number, then your fabric code, piping code and exact size. Nothing in the box appears on the product, and the workshop confirms size and color with you when production starts.
