# Do you accept offers on floor cushions and custom sets?

*Asking is honest, my friend. So is the answer: there is a little room, and there is a floor under it.*

Also asked as: Would you accept a lower offer?; Is it possible to make an offer?

> **The quick answer:** Yes, within limits: the workshop has met buyers in the middle on floor seating sets and taken small amounts off through the Make an Offer button. Repeat buyers have been given a lower price per extra set. It won't sell below cost, sets a minimum on every quote, and sometimes says a price is already its lowest.

## Key facts

- Offers on floor seating sets have been met in the middle.
- Small reductions have come through the Make an Offer button.
- A cover set was accepted slightly below its listed price.
- Repeat buyers have been given lower per-set prices.
- The workshop will not sell below cost.
- Each quote carries a minimum price.
- A seat cushion alone was suggested to fit a student's budget.

## What buyers asked for, and what came back

| The ask | What happened |
|---|---|
| An offer on a 28 x 60 in floor seat, through Make an Offer | A small amount came off |
| A slightly lower figure on a cover set | Accepted |
| Meet in the middle on a 28 x 64 in set | Met in the middle |
| Meet in the middle on an 18 x 32 in cushion | Met in the middle |
| A cut on a large floor-seating quote | Trimmed slightly |
| Two more sets for a repeat buyer | A lower price per extra set |
| An offer far below the quote | Declined: below cost, and the quote's minimum held |
| A student on a tight budget | Offered a 16 x 31½ in (40 x 80 cm) seat cushion alone |

## Why the floor under the price doesn't move

Every [floor cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/floor-cushions/) is foam, cloth and a pair of hands, and the margin between them is small. That is why large cuts aren't possible, and why each quote carries a minimum the workshop will hold.

An old upholsterer learns this early. You can shave a little off for a good customer. You cannot sell a cushion for less than it costs to sew, or the next one never gets made. Buy the cushion once, cry once.

## How to ask so the answer can be yes

Ask for a smaller configuration before you ask for a smaller price. When a student's budget couldn't reach the full set, the workshop suggested the seat cushion alone. Ordering several sets at once, or coming back as a repeat buyer, has earned a lower price per set, and one repeat buyer got a small extra refund on top of a sale that was running.

If you're still sizing things up, the [tufted floor couch set sizes](https://cushionguide.com/guides/tufted-floor-couch-set-sizes/) and [what to send for a quote](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-quote-what-to-send/) will make the conversation short. What is the one piece you'd keep if the budget only stretched to one?

> **Tailor's margin:** When a floor cushion set is over budget, ask about the seat cushion alone: it has been the answer when an offer couldn't go any lower.

> Offers on custom floor cushions work in small steps: buyers get met in the middle, but no quote goes below cost or under its set minimum.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can I make an offer on a floor cushion or a cover set?

**The workshop's answer:** Sometimes. The workshop took a small amount off a 28 x 60 in floor seat through the Make an Offer button and accepted a slightly lower figure on a cover set. Other times it said the price was already its lowest.

**A common question:** Could you go lower on the price, or take an offer?

**The workshop's answer:** There's some room. The workshop accepted an offer on the corner sofa with ottoman and trimmed a large floor-seating quote slightly. It wouldn't go to a figure below cost, and it held a set minimum on a cushion set when offered less.

**A common question:** Is there a discount, or will you accept a lower offer?

**The workshop's answer:** Some flexibility, yes: a repeat buyer got two extra sets at a lower price each, offers were met in the middle on a 28 x 64 in set and an 18 x 32 in cushion, and a student was offered a seat cushion alone to fit the budget. Large cuts aren't possible because margins are small.

**A common question:** Is one long cushion cheaper than several separate pieces?

**The workshop's answer:** Usually about the same, since price follows total surface. Separate pieces add sewing and zippers, yet real splits came out equal or slightly cheaper. Cushions around 108 in or longer are made in two pieces anyway.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Does the quoted price include the foam insert and delivery?

The foam insert and the cover are in the price for your size, and the shipping cost is stated with the quote; past floor-cushion quotes came as one total with delivery in it. Mention your destination when you ask, since a few remote places have added a fee.

### Does fabric choice change the price much?

Barely. Quotes follow size: length, depth and thickness. Price rises with size and thickness while fabric changes it very little, so size and thickness are where a budget really moves.

### Is a repeat order priced differently?

It can be. Repeat buyers have been given a lower price per extra set, and one got a small extra refund on top of a sale that was running. Mention your earlier order when you ask for the new quote.
