# Can I get a 2.5 or 4.5 inch thick cushion?

*Yes. The menu counts in whole inches; the foam doesn't have to. The follow-ups below arrive in about the order buyers send them.*

Also asked as: Any options around 2.5 inches thick?; Can the cushion be 2 1/2 inches thick?

> **The quick answer:** Yes, a 2.5 in (6.4 cm) or 4.5 in (11.4 cm) thick cushion can be made: choose the nearest thickness option and write the exact figure in the personalization or exact-size note. The standard menu runs 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5 to 12.5 cm). Picked the wrong option? Tell the shop before production and the order is adjusted.

## Key facts

- In-between thicknesses such as 2.5 in (6.4 cm) and 4.5 in (11.4 cm) are made to order.
- The thickness menu offers 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5 to 12.5 cm).
- The exact thickness goes in the Add Personalization or exact-size note.
- About 3 in (7.5 cm) has been made for a dining bench where 4 in (10 cm) was too thick.
- Metric in-between sizes, such as 5 in (12.5 cm), are ordered the same way.
- Thickness can be changed if you tell the shop before production.

## “Can you do 2.5 inches?”

Yes. The dropdown shows 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5 to 12.5 cm) because a menu needs steps. The foam is cut to a number, and 2.5 in is a perfectly good number.

The half steps usually come from a dining bench that sits close to the tabletop, a window that has to clear the cushion, or a buyer who simply doesn't want the seat too thick. Each half inch moves the seat by exactly that much, so run your numbers through the [seat height calculator](https://cushionguide.com/studio/seat-height-calculator/) first. What does your bench measure from floor to seat today?

## “How do I order a size that isn't on the menu?”

1. **Pick the nearest option**: For 2.5 in, choose 2 or 3 in; for 4.5 in, choose 4 or 5 in. The dropdown only has to get the order started.
2. **Write the exact figure**: In the Add Personalization or exact-size note, write it plainly: "Thickness: 2 1/2 in." The [personalization note](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-personalization-note/) Pattern shows the full wording.
3. **Check before production**: Chose the wrong option, partner? Message the shop before production starts and it adjusts the order.

## “Four inches is too thick for my dining bench”

A buyer wrote in about a dining bench where a 4 in (10 cm) cushion was simply too thick. The fix was about 3 in (7.5 cm), written into the personalization section, for two linen cushions: one about 71 1/4 x 15 1/2 in (181 x 39.5 cm), the other about 46 5/8 x 15 1/2 in (118.5 x 39.5 cm). Same order form, one extra line of text. More long seats live under [bench cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/).

> **Tailor's margin:** For a 2.5 in thick cushion, pick the nearest thickness option and write “2 1/2 in” in the personalization note; the foam is cut to the note.

> Cushion thickness isn't limited to whole inches: 2.5 in and 4.5 in are made to order when the exact figure is written in the order note.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Which thicknesses can I pick, and is 2.5 inches one of them?

**The workshop's answer:** The product page offers 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5 to 12.5 cm), and 2.5 in can be made as well. If you choose the wrong thickness, tell the shop before production and the order is adjusted.

**A common question:** Could my cushion be 2 1/2 in thick instead of a standard size?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Write 2 1/2 in in the exact-size section when you order and it's made that way. Metric in-between sizes such as 5 in (12.5 cm) work the same way.

**A common question:** What's the thinnest you make, and can you do 4.5 inches?

**The workshop's answer:** 2 in (5 cm) is the thinnest standard option and the recommended minimum for seating. In-between thicknesses such as 4.5 in are fine: write the figure in the Add Personalization section.

**A common question:** Is a thinner cushion any cheaper?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Standard thicknesses from 2 to 5 in cost the same; only cushions thicker than that are quoted by size.

## Questions buyers ask next

### How much does half an inch change the seat height?

Exactly half an inch. A 2.5 in cushion sits 1/2 in higher than a 2 in one and 1/2 in lower than a 3 in one, so check the finished seat height against your table or window sill before you choose.

### Can I switch thickness after the order is placed?

Yes, as long as production hasn't started. Send the shop the new figure, for example 4.5 in instead of 4 in, and the order is adjusted before the foam is cut.

### Do metric in-between sizes work the same way?

Yes. On metric listings, sizes such as 3 in (7.5 cm) and 5 in (12.5 cm) are ordered the same way: pick the nearest option and write the exact figure in the personalization note before production starts.
