# Why hasn't my cushion order shipped yet? Do holidays delay it?

*Even the busiest porch has a Sunday when nobody answers the door, neighbor. Workshops and couriers keep holidays too, and here is how that shows up on a ship date.*

Also asked as: Why does the order keep getting delayed?; Do you have an estimated ship date?

> **The quick answer:** Yes, holidays can delay a custom cushion order: the workshop closes for holidays and couriers don't collect, once for 9 days in a row. A cushion finished during a closure waits until the workshop reopens, and handmade production can run a little behind. Past late orders went by expedited shipping, sometimes with a small gift. If you have a hard date, put it in your first message.

## Key facts

- The workshop closes for holidays, and couriers don't collect; one holiday paused pickups for 9 days.
- Orders finished during a holiday wait until the workshop reopens to ship.
- Handmade production can also run a little behind the estimate.
- Delayed orders have been upgraded to expedited shipping in past cases.
- A small gift has been added to apologize for a delay.

## What can hold a cushion back, and what the workshop does

| What happens | How long | What the workshop does |
|---|---|---|
| Workshop holiday | Workshop closed, no courier pickups; once 9 days | Finished orders wait until it reopens |
| Handmade work runs behind | A little past the estimate | Has upgraded late orders to expedited in past cases |
| Chosen fabric out of stock | Mill reweave adds time; ask how long | Or switch to an in-stock fabric and start at once |
| Carrier trouble | Can add a day or two | Ask for a set ship day before ordering |

## Why the estimate slipped

When a buyer writes that the estimated date has come and gone, the answer is nearly always the calendar. The workshop shuts for holidays, and so do the couriers, so a cushion finished on the first day of a closure sits boxed until the first working day after. One closure stopped pickups for 9 days.

Everything is handmade, too, so production can run a little behind. What I like is what came next: late orders were upgraded to expedited shipping, and once a small gift was tucked in to say sorry. That's history, not a promise, so ask the workshop to put yours in writing.

Have a date the cushion has to be on the porch by? Say it in your first message.

## Which orders take longer to make, before any holiday

| Order | Making time |
|---|---|
| Standard cushion | Quickest |
| Customized piece | Longer |
| Curved or complex shape | Longer still |
| Large outdoor project | Quoted per project |
| One-off master-craftsman piece | Longest; ask early |

> **Tailor's margin:** A custom cushion finished during a holiday closure waits until the workshop reopens to ship; one closure held courier pickups for 9 days.

> When a holiday pushed a cushion order past its estimate, it went out by expedited shipping, and once with a small gift tucked in. If yours has a date to meet, say so in the first message.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Why is my order taking longer than the estimate?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop closes for holidays, which can push shipping back a few days. When that happened, the order went out by expedited service at no extra cost, with a small gift added.

**A common question:** Why hasn't my order shipped by the estimated date?

**The workshop's answer:** Public holidays stop the couriers; one lasted 9 days. Orders finished during a holiday wait until the workshop reopens, and some late ones went out expedited. Because everything is handmade, production can also run a little behind.

**A common question:** Can you promise my cushion arrives by a certain date?

**The workshop's answer:** Not with certainty. In past cases the workshop prioritized an order to ship on an agreed day, but carriers can still run a day or two late, so give your deadline before ordering and you'll hear whether it's realistic.

## Questions buyers ask next

### When should I order a cushion that has a hard deadline?

As early as you can, with the date in your first message. Customized pieces and curved shapes need extra days at the table before shipping, and a holiday closure can add more on top, so the earlier the date is on the table, the sooner you'll know whether it's realistic.

### Do I pay extra when a holiday makes my order late?

Past buyers didn't: when a holiday or production pushed an order past its estimate, the workshop upgraded it to expedited shipping at no extra cost, once with a small gift. Ask what applies to yours when you hear about the delay.

### Can a custom cushion be made and delivered within a few days?

Usually not for a fully custom piece: handmade production needs several days before shipping begins. Ready-made standard sets are quicker, so say your date before ordering.
