# How many metal bars come with the floor sofa, and does it need assembly?

*Four bars, friend. That's the short of it. The cushions come ready to sit on; the bars are the only rigging you set up yourself.*

Also asked as: how many stainless steel stabilizers; only 2 metal brackets?

> **The quick answer:** A standard teddy floor sofa comes with 4 identical metal support bars: 2 for the sides and 2 for the back. The cushions arrive already in their covers, so the only assembly is connecting the chrome bars, which ship apart. Twist and push each joint until the click-dots lock; a diagram or setup video comes on request.

## Key facts

- The standard floor sofa includes 4 metal support bars, all the same size.
- 2 bars go on the sides and 2 on the back.
- Cushions arrive already in their covers and ready to use.
- The chrome bars ship unassembled; a diagram or setup video is provided.
- Tube diameter has been given as about 5/8 in (16 mm) in one reply and about 3/4 in (18 mm) in another.
- On the bars listing, choosing '2' gets two full bar units.
- Bars aren't sold on their own, only as replacements or with a backrest purchase.
- The bars ship in a small separate box, about 16 x 16 x 2 in (40 x 40 x 5 cm) and about 9 lb (4 kg).

## Why a floor sofa has 4 metal bars, not 2

One buyer wrote 'only 2 metal brackets?' and worried the set was short. It isn't. The standard floor sofa comes with 4 metal support bars of the same size: 2 along the sides, 2 along the back. A frame with half its bars is a boat with half its lines.

The mix-up has a second source: on the bars listing, choosing '2' gets two full bar units, not two tubes. Bars are otherwise sold only as replacements or with a backrest. The [modular floor sofa atlas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) shows how the pieces sit.

## Rigging the frame

1. **Lay out the bars**: Four bars, all the same size: two for the sides, two for the back.
2. **Twist and push**: Push the tube ends together with a twist until the click-dots lock. A metal insert inside the tube grips the joint.
3. **Ease a stiff joint**: If a joint is too tight, click that piece in and out of the corner piece a few times, then try again.
4. **Sit down**: The cushions arrive in their covers, ready to use. The [support bars pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-sofa-support-bars-assembly/) shows the joints up close.

## Bar tube diameter: 5/8 in or 3/4 in?

Two replies, two numbers: about 5/8 in (16 mm) in one and about 3/4 in (18 mm) in the other. Forecasts disagree too; you pack for both. If the exact [bar](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#metal-support-bars) diameter matters for a replacement, ask before you order. Which joint on yours is the stubborn one?

> **Tailor's margin:** A standard floor sofa has 4 identical metal bars, 2 at the sides, 2 at the back. A tight joint loosens if you click it in and out.

> Floor sofa cushions arrive in their covers, ready to sit on. The only assembly is the chrome bars: twist, push, and wait for the click-dots to lock.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** How many metal stabilizers come with the couch, and how do they go together?

**The workshop's answer:** Four: two for the sides and two for the back. Twist and push the tubes together until the click-dots lock. If a joint is too tight, click each piece in and out of the corner piece a few times. A setup video comes on request.

**A common question:** Will I need to assemble the sofa when it arrives?

**The workshop's answer:** Only the bars. The cushions arrive already in their covers and ready to use; the one setup job is connecting the chrome support bars, with a diagram or video to follow.

**A common question:** Can I buy the metal frame separately?

**The workshop's answer:** Not on its own. The sofa comes with 4 same-size bars, 2 on the sides and 2 on the back, and bars are sold only as replacements or with a backrest purchase.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Are all four floor sofa bars the same?

Yes. The four bars in a standard set are the same size, so there's no left or right to sort out before you start. Two run along the sides and two along the back.

### Is there a video for setting up the floor sofa?

Yes. A setup video or diagram is sent on request. Most of the job is one motion, repeated at each joint: push the tube ends together with a twist until the click-dots lock.

### Why won't a bar joint click in?

New joints can be stiff. Click the piece in and out of the corner piece a few times to loosen it, then push with a twist until the dots lock. The metal insert inside the tube does the gripping.
