# The metal bars on my floor sofa keep coming apart. How do I fix it?

*The bars have no screws. That is deliberate. Here is what holds them together, and what to do when it stops working.*

Also asked as: The metal parts keep falling apart; How do I stop the bars disconnecting?

> **The quick answer:** Re-seat every joint on the floor sofa's metal bars until the spring dots click fully home, then put a rug or a small piece of fabric under the frame so it stops sliding. The bars push-fit with no screws by design. If they still separate, send the workshop photos or a video and ask about its updated or one-piece bars.

## Key facts

- The bars have no screws by design; they push-fit together.
- Each joint should click fully home on its spring dots.
- A rug or small piece of fabric under the bars stops the sofa sliding.
- Taping the joints helps if they still slide apart.
- One-piece bars that need no assembly come in the same size and structure.
- Bars that don't fit or keep separating are worth photos or a video sent to the workshop.
- Updated push-fit bars are more secure than the older sectional bars, some of which didn't sit flush.
- The bars are steel tube about 5/8 in (16 mm) across, in a silver chrome finish only.
- Extra support bars are sold in sets of 4 pieces: two for the sides and two for the back.
- The bars travel in their own small box, about 16 x 16 x 2 in (40 x 40 x 5 cm) and about 9 lb (4 kg).

## Four things to try, in this order

1. **Re-seat every joint**: Pull each connection apart and push it back until the spring dot clicks fully into its hole. The setup video shows the click. A joint that is half home will drift.
2. **Put something under the frame**: A rug, or even a small piece of fabric under the bars. Bare floor lets the sofa slide, and sliding pulls joints apart.
3. **Tape a stubborn joint**: If one connection keeps parting, wrap tape around it. It holds while you sort out the rest.
4. **Send photos or a short video**: Show the joints and the gap, so the workshop can tell a bar that doesn't fit from one that simply isn't seated.

## Why there are no screws

The bars push together so setup stays easy. Nothing to tighten, nothing to strip. The weight of the cushions is what holds the frame in place. On a slippery floor, or with joints not fully seated, that weight is not enough, and the pieces wander.

The [support bars Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-sofa-support-bars-assembly/) shows the frame from the first joint to the last. The bars themselves are defined under [metal support bars](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#metal-support-bars), and the [modular floor sofas](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) hub covers the layouts they hold.

The bars hold the shape.
The cushions hold the bars.
The rug holds everything still.

## Three generations of floor sofa bars

| Version | How it joins | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Older sectional bars | Push-fit; some didn't sit flush | Replaced by an improved, more secure version |
| Updated bars | Push-fit, more secure | Sent as replacements in past cases |
| One-piece bars | No assembly at all | Same size and structure as the push-fit sets |

## Bars parting, cushions drifting

A buyer got in touch that the metal bars kept coming apart and the cushions were sliding around the room. The workshop sent a new, updated bar set free of charge, along with the setup video so every joint would click fully home. It also suggested a rug, or even a small piece of fabric, under the bars. The sofa stopped wandering off.

> **Tailor's margin:** Floor sofa bars push together with no screws. If one joint keeps parting, a strip of tape around it holds while you sort out the rest.

> A floor sofa frame with no screws is held by weight: seat every joint until the spring dot clicks, then set the whole frame on a rug.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** The bars don't click together and there are no screws. How are they meant to stay put?

**The workshop's answer:** There are no screws on purpose, so assembly stays easy. The bars push together and the cushions' weight holds the frame in place. If the joints keep sliding apart, tape the connections. After complaints, the workshop made a newer, taller version of the bars and sent replacements.

**A common question:** The metal pieces separate every time we sit down. Is there a version with no assembly?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. One-piece bars in the same size and structure need no assembly. In past cases, defective bars were replaced, and after repeated problems the workshop sent pre-assembled bars. Photos of the parting joints show which fix fits.

**A common question:** My connector bars feel flimsy, or don't fit. Can you help?

**The workshop's answer:** Send photos or video of the problem first. The bars have been improved based on feedback, and bars that didn't fit have been replaced. Extra support bars are also sold in sets of 4.

**A common question:** The rods on my older modular couch don't sit flush. Can it be fixed?

**The workshop's answer:** Those are the older bars. A newer, more secure version is sold separately and replaces them.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why are floor sofa bars made without screws?

To keep setup simple. The bars push together and the weight of the cushions holds the frame in place, so there is nothing to tighten or strip. If a joint still drifts, tape it and ask the workshop about updated bars.

### How do I ask for updated floor sofa bars?

Send the workshop photos or a short video of the joints first, so it can see whether a bar doesn't fit or simply isn't seated, and choose between updated push-fit bars and a one-piece set. Get its timing in writing.

### Do one-piece bars fit the same floor sofa layout?

Yes. The one-piece bars keep the same size and structure as the push-fit sets, so they hold the same layout. They need no assembly, which removes the joints that tend to separate in the first place.
